Men's Soccer Falls on the Road to No. 14 Grand View
Des Moines, Iowa, (Oct. 18, 2025)- The Missouri Valley College men's and women's soccer teams traveled to Des Moines, Iowa for a Heart of America Athletic Conference doubleheader against Grand View (Iowa) Saturday afternoon. The No. 5 Viking women's team scored twice in the first half and secured a 2-1 win, while the men's team fell to No. 14 Grand View.
The men's game began with Grand View coming close to the opening goal of the contest, putting a shot off the crossbar with just over seven minutes played in the contest. Missouri Valley followed with the better of possession over the next 11-minutes, creating three corner kicks and two shots on goal. The attempts from Sophomore Midfielder Yannick Muller (Dietmannsried, Germany) and Senior Midfielder Julius Kruger (Berlin, Germany) were both saved to keep the teams scoreless. Grand View tested Senior Goalkeeper Vicente Benitez Delgado (Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain) for his first save of the game near the 26-minute mark. The two teams traded possession over the next several minutes, leading up to an indirect free kick foul committed by MVC in its box with less than 10-minutes to play in the half. The initial shot from Grand View hit off the crossbar, but the rebound went to a GVU player who put his shot into goal to make it a 1-0 score. Missouri Valley was unable to find an equalizer before the break, and went into halftime trailing by one goal.
Play in the second half began with Grand View taking control early, and scoring two goals in the opening eight minutes of play to build up a 3-0 advantage. Missouri Valley was unable to create quality chances through the rest of play, and fell by a final score of 4-0.
Benitez Delgado made one save in goal, and the Vikings created eight corner kicks and five total shots.
The loss drops Missouri Valley to 5-6-3 overall and 3-5-2 in the Heart. Grand View improves to 10-2-3 on the season and 6-2-2 in the conference.
Up next, the Viking soccer teams will host Mount Mercy (Iowa) on Homecoming Friday, with an afternoon doubleheader inside Volney C. Ashford Stadium. Women's game starts at 1 p.m., followed by the men's game at 3:30 p.m. The Homecoming Ed Leslie Memorial Torch Run, pep rally and bonfire will all follow the soccer games to open Homecoming weekend.
