No. 5 Women's Soccer Scores Early To Defeat Mount Mercy

Marshall, Mo., (Oct. 24, 2025)- The Missouri Valley College men's and women's soccer teams hosted Mount Mercy (Iowa) in a Heart of America Athletic Conference doubleheader inside Volney C. Ashford Stadium to open Homecoming weekend.  The No. 5 women's team built up an early lead and earned a 7-0 win.  The men's team held off the Mustangs late for a 2-1 victory.

The women's game started with Mount Mercy creating the first chance on goal, forcing Senior Goalkeeper Marina Barbara Bujalance (Cornella Llobregat, Spain) into a save with less than five minutes off the clock.  Nearly one minute later, Missouri Valley had its first goal of the contest, as Senior Midfielder Carla Carmona (Barcelona, Spain) assisted on a goal from Senior Forward Ashley Arribas (Lake Forest, Calif.) to make it 1-0.  Senior Defender Daijah White (Tucson, Ariz.) came close to adding to the advantage, putting a shot off the crossbar just over one minute later.  With nearly eight minutes played, MVC increased its lead, as Senior Defender Zoe Christofaro (Tucson, Ariz.) scored off an assist from Senior Forward Marlene Flores (Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia).  The Vikings continued to pressure the MMU keeper, forcing three saves through the 12-minute mark.  Another goal came with nearly 18-minutes played in the contest, as Arribas added her second goal, coming off assists from Senior Defender Ana Rendon (Medellin, Colombia) and Senior Midfielder Judit Ferre (Barcelona, Spain).  A fourth goal of the half was eventually scored, with less than 12-minute to play before the break.  Sophomore Defender Lucia Torres Vizcaino (Malaga, Spain) set up Arribas with another goal, giving Arribas a hat-trick, and sending MVC into halftime on top, 4-0.

Play in the second half started with more early pressure created by Missouri Valley, and a corner kick from Ferre found Senior Defender Marta Carrasco Mesa (Sevilla, Spain) in the box.  The attempt from Carrasco Mesa deflected off a Mount Mercy defender and into goal, increasing the advantage to 5-0 with four minutes off the clock.  Five minutes later, Ferre added a goal, as Sophomore Midfielder Fabiana Vasquez (Isla Margarita, Venezuela) and Junior Defender Heliamar Mora (Yaracuy, Venezuela) teamed up on the assist.  The final goal of the contest came near the 67-minute mark, as Rendon set up Senior Midfielder Madi Hudson (Sandbach, England) with a shot and goal to make it a 7-0 score.  The Vikings held MMU to no shots on goal through the half, and eventually finished out the 7-0 victory.

Arribas recorded the first hat-trick of her career, and now has eight goals and 18 points on the season.  This was also the first hat-trick for the program since Paula Sanabria scored three goals in a 4-0 win over MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) back on Nov. 6, 2021.  Ferre added one goal and one assist, and leads the team with nine goals and 22 points, to go with four assists on the season.  Christofaro added one goal, and has four goals this season, and Hudson scored her first goal.  Rendon recorded two assists, and now has four assists on the season.  Flores had one assist, to total five on the season, Carmona added one assist, and sits with four total, while both Torres Vizcaino and Vasquez had one assist each to total two assists this season.  Mora added her first assist.  Barbara Bujalance made one save in goal and recorded the team's sixth shutout.  The Vikings held a 23-1 advantage in shots and created six corner kicks.

The win moves Missouri Valley to 11-0-4 overall and 9-0-2 in the Heart.  Mount Mercy falls to 7-7-2 on the season and 5-6-1 in the conference.

Up next, the Viking soccer teams will host Missouri Baptist for a Senior Night doubleheader, Tuesday, inside Volney C. Ashford Stadium.  Women's game starts at 5 p.m., followed by the men's game at 7:30 p.m.
