No. 18 Women's Wrestling Hosts Missouri Valley Open

Marshall, Mo., (Nov. 22, 2025)- The No. 18 Missouri Valley College women's wrestling team hosted the annual Missouri Valley Open, Friday and Saturday inside the Burns Athletic Complex, featuring teams across all divisions of collegiate women's wrestling, including NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA and JUCO.  The Missouri Valley Open is the largest women's collegiate wrestling tournament in the country, and includes more than 50 teams and over 700 women's wrestlers.  The Vikings were led by No. 4 Junior Serenity De La Garza (McAllen, Texas), who placed fifth at 138 pounds, and Senior Sarina Bertram (Platte City, Mo.). who finished sixth at 145 pounds.

No. 4 Junior Serenity De La Garza (McAllen, Texas)-138 pounds:

First Round: Defeated Aubrey Sharbono of Hastings (Neb.) in a first period (0:39) pin.

Second Round: Defeated Morgan Edwards of Lehigh (Pa.) in a 10-0 technical fall.

Third Round: Defeated No. 8 Lexi Ritchie of Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) in a first period (2:40) pin.

Quarterfinal: Defeated No. 10 Aileen Lester of Ottawa (Kan.) in a first period (2:59) pin.

Semifinal: Lost to Julia Chambers of Quincy (Ill.) in a first period (1:16) pin.

Consolation Semifinal: Lost to Jacinda Espinosa of Lindenwood (Mo.) in a first period (2:31) pin.

Fifth Place Match: Defeated Madeline Barton of Quincy (Ill.) in a second period (3:33) pin.

De La Garza placed fifth at 138 pounds.

 

Senior Sarina Bertram (Platte City, Mo.)-145 pounds:

First Round: Received a bye.

Second Round: Defeated No. 13 Haidyn Snyder of Grand View (Iowa) in a 6-1 decision.

Third Round: Defeated Maeley Elsbury of William Penn (Iowa) in a 12-2 technical fall.

Quarterfinal: Defeated No. 16 Alexis Means of Friends (Kan.) in an 8-4 decision.

Semifinal: Lost to Reese Larramendy of Iowa in a 6-0 decision.

Consolation Semifinal: Lost to Aleah Nickel of University of Alberta (Canada) in a first period (0:20) pin.

Fifth Place Match: Lost to Liv Weiber of Simon Fraser (British Columbia) in a 5-1 decision.

Bertram placed sixth at 145 pounds.

 

No. 20 Senior Sage Beltran (Honolulu, Hawaii)-103 pounds:

First Round: Lost to No. 12 Aynsley Fink of Ottawa (Kan.) in a 10-0 technical fall.

Consolation First Round: Received a bye.

Consolation Second Round: Defeated Lemuna Gurisho of Hawkeye CC in a first period (2:14) pin.

Consolation Third Round: Defeated No. 20 Alanis Serrano-Rios of Waldorf (Iowa) in a 10-10 decision.
