No. 15 Women's Wrestling Competes at the Doane Open

Crete, Neb., (Dec. 2, 2023)- The No. 15 Missouri Valley College women's wrestling team traveled to Crete, Neb., to compete at the Doane (Neb.) Open, Saturday. Leading the team was Kelani Corbett who finished second at 191 pounds.

Senior Kelani Corbett (Wahiawa, Hawaii)- 191 pounds:

First Round: Defeated Brooke Burns of Indian Hills (Iowa) in a 10-0 technical fall.

Second Round: Defeated Christina Page of Friends (Kan.) in a first period (2:18) pin.

Quarterfinal: Defeated Kenisha Jacsaint of Doane (Neb.) in an 11-0 technical fall.

Semifinal: Defeated No. 14 Lessly Sandoval of University of St. Mary (Kan.) in a 13-2 technical fall.

Final: Lost to No. 2 Joanna Hendricks of Waldorf (Iowa) in a first period (0:32) pin. 

Corbett placed second at 191 pounds.

Senior Willow Barnes (Romulus, Mich.)- 136 pounds:

First Round: Received a bye.

Second Round: Lost to Ashlee Palimo of Doane (Neb.) in a first period (2:28) pin.

Consolation Second Round: Lost to Kayla Reddick of Waldorf (Iowa) in a third period (5:08) pin.

Senior Elizabeth Hubbard (Azle, Texas)- 155 pounds:

First Round: Defeated Mariah Bradley of Hastings (Neb.) in a 10-0 technical fall.

Second Round: Lost to No. 20 Niah Smith of Waldorf (Iowa) in a first period (2:30) pin.

Consolation Second Round: Defeated teammate Jericka Renner in a first period (3:00) pin.

Consolation Third Round: Lost to Kylee Eastwood of William Penn (Iowa) in a first period (0:01) pin.

Sophomore Jericka Renner (Stockton, Calif.)- 155 pounds:

First Round: Lost to Ja'Nya Banks of Indian Hills (Iowa) in a first period (1:34) pin.

Consolation First Round: Received a bye.

Consolation Second Round: Lost to teammate Elizabeth Hubbard in a first period (3:00) pin.

Freshman Tylah Allen (Jonesboro, Ark.)- 191 pounds:

First Round: Defeated Madison Haley of Friends (Kan.) in a first period (0:38) pin.

Second Round: Lost to Lamia Benn of Doane (Neb.) in a 12-1 technical fall.

Consolation Second Round: Lost to Gracie Orr of Ellsworth (Iowa) in a second period (3:50) pin.

Up next, the Vikings women's wrestling team will compete at the US Open on Dec. 15-16 starting at 9 a.m., in Fort Worth, Texas.
