Women's Volleyball Tops Culver-Stockton on Senior Night

Marshall, Mo., (Oct. 21, 2025)- The Missouri Valley College women's volleyball team hosted Culver-Stockton (Mo.) in a Heart of America Athletic Conference match Tuesday evening inside the Burns Athletic Complex on Senior Night.  The Vikings got in front early, and finished out a win in four games by scores of 25-7, 25-20, 26-28, 25-16.

 

Game one began with Missouri Valley winning four of the first five points.  Senior Outside Hitter Juliana Oliveira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) put down an ace and both Senior Right Side Maria Bertholdo (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) and Senior Middle Hitter Patrisiya Uzoma (Moscow, Russia) added one kill apiece to make it a 5-1 score.  The Vikings gradually added to their lead over the next stretch, as Uzoma had two kills and one block, with another kill from Junior Right Side Laura Tavares (Merida, Venezuela) to help put the lead at 12-5.  Missouri Valley took control from there, and won 12-straight points.  Senior Middle Hitter Kinga Romanowicz (Krepiec, Poland) had four kills during the stretch, and Senior Right Side Bea Bartolome (Madrid, Spain) added two kills.  Oliveira put down four aces and Freshman Outside Hitter Rylee Adams (Odessa, Mo.) had one block.  The final point of the game was finished off by Bartolome, and Missouri Valley won, 25-7.  The Vikings hit at a .625 percentage and limited CSC to a -.273 hitting percentage in the game.

 

After Culver-Stockton won the first two points of the second game, The Vikings answered with a six-point run.  Romanowicz had one kill and one block, with two kills coming from Sophomore Outside Hitter Olivia Randolph (Columbia, Mo.) and an ace by Oliveira to send the team in front, 6-2.  The Wildcats responded to win eight of the next nine points to move back ahead, 10-7.  Missouri Valley went on another run, this time taking six of the following seven points.  Bertholdo, Randolph and Tavares each finished off one kill and Adams added an ace to give MVC a 13-11 lead.  Missouri Valley increased its advantage from there, as Tavares had one kill and one block, while Oliveira added two kills and Romanowicz had a solo block to make it an 18-13 score.  Culver-Stockton worked back into the game, and cut its deficit down to 20-19.  Missouri Valley closed things out from there, winning five of the final six points.  Randolph put down two kills to help make it game-point, and Oliveira ended game two with one more kill, finishing out a 25-20 win.

 

Going for the sweep in game three, Missouri Valley used an ace from Oliveira, and one kill each from Romanowicz, Bartolome and Uzoma to give the team a 6-2 lead.  Culver-Stockton followed with five-straight points to go in front, and eventually made it a 10-9 score.  The two teams traded points through the rest of the game, until one kill from Bartolome and another by Romanowicz gave MVC a 23-21 lead.  The Wildcats then won three-straight, and held the first game-point at 24-23.  Uzoma extended the game with one kill, and a CSC error made it match-point for the Vikings.  Missouri Valley held another match-point, at 26-25, on a Bertholdo kill, but Culver-Stockton won the final three points of the game to take the game, 28-26, and send the match to game four.

 

Missouri Valley gradually built up a lead at the start of the fourth game, as Oliveira had two kills and an ace, with one kill each from Romanowicz, Randolph, Bertholdo and Tavares eventually making it a 10-6 advantage.  The Wildcats responded to win seven of the next eight points to make it a 13-11 score.  The Vikings answered with a run, taking six of seven points midway through the game, on one kill apiece by Bertholdo and Oliveira and a block by Romanowicz to give MVC a 17-14 advantage.  Missouri Valley added to its lead with a seven-point run to reach match-point.  Randolph had two kills, Senior Libero Ana Franco (Cascais, Portugal) added two aces and Bertholdo finished off one kill.  The final point of the night was another kill by Randolph to seal a 25-16 win the game, and a 3-1 win in the match.

 

Romanowicz led with 11 kills, on a .400 hitting percentage.  Randolph had nine kills, on a .667 hitting percentage, and Oliveira totaled nine kills, eight digs and seven aces.  Bertholdo added eight kills.  Senior Setter Avery Crain (Shell Knob, Mo.) and Junior Setter Clarissa Dias (Praia Grande, Brazil) each had 15 assists, and Sophomore Setter Kellen Fitzgerald (Frisco, Texas) added 14 assists.  Franco led with 19 digs.  Missouri Valley totaled 10 blocks and 11 aces as a team.

 

Missouri Valley improves to 13-13 overall and 6-9 in the Heart.  Culver-Stockton drops to 7-20 on the season and 2-13 in the conference.
