No. 4 Women's Soccer Captures Heart Postseason Championship Title With Win Over Central Methodist
Fayette, Mo., (Nov. 12, 2025)- The No. 2 seed Missouri Valley College women's soccer team traveled to No. 1 seed Central Methodist (Mo.) for the Heart of America Athletic Conference Postseason Championship final, Wednesday evening. The Vikings scored one goal in each half, and earned a 2-0 victory to capture the tournament title.
The game started with the two teams trading possession through much of the first half. Both teams were unable to create a shot on goal until the final minutes of the half. With less than seven minutes remaining before the break, Senior Forward Viktoria Einsbor (Havdrup, Denmark) sent a long-range shot towards goal. The attempt was deflected off the crossbar by the Central Methodist keeper, but the rebound fell to Junior Defender Heliamar Mora (Yaracuy, Venezuela) inside the Eagle box. Mora put her shot past the keeper and into goal to give the Vikings a 1-0 lead. Missouri Valley held CMU from creating any late chances on goal, and the Vikings went into halftime holding the one-goal advantage.
Play in the second half began with an early shot on goal created by Missouri Valley, as an attempt from Fabiana Vasquez was saved just over two minutes after the restart. Central Methodist came close to finding an equalizer five minutes later, as a header hit off the crossbar and away from goal. The Vikings came close to extending their lead near the 56-minute mark, as Senior Defender Daijah White (Tucson, Ariz.) had an attempt hit off the CMU crossbar. The first shot by the Eagles to test the MVC came with 20-minutes remaining in the contest, as Junior Goalkeeper Lola Martinez Benitez (Madrid, Spain) made a save. The Vikings responded with possession near the Central Methodist box, and Senior Forward Ashley Arribas (Lake Forest, Calif.) got off a shot towards goal. The attempt was deflected by an Eagle defender and went into the net for an own-goal, which put the MVC lead at 2-0 with less than 17-minutes left on the clock. The next quality chance came seven minutes later, but the shot from Senior Defender Marta Carrasco Mesa (Sevilla, Spain) was saved. Central Methodist could not hold possession and pressure Missouri Valley until late in the game. Martinez Benitez made one more save, with one minute remaining, to secure the shutout, and the Vikings earned a 2-0 victory to capture the Heart Postseason Championship title for the second time in the past three seasons.
Mora scored her first goal of the season, and her first game-winning goal. Martinez Benitez made two saves in goal and earned the team its ninth shutout on the season. The Vikings got off a total of 10 shots and earned five corner kicks.
Missouri Valley improves to 16-0-4 overall and Central Methodist drops to 16-2-2 overall. The two teams played to a 2-2 during the regular season, back on Sept. 17 in Fayette, Mo. The Vikings captured the program's second Heart Postseason Championship title, having last won the tournament in 2023, and secured an automatic berth into the 2025 NAIA Women's Soccer National Championship.
Up next, the Viking women's soccer team will learn its place in the 2025 NAIA Women's Soccer National Championship, when the field is announced Friday evening. Missouri Valley earned one of two automatic berths from the Heart into the National tournament. This will be the program's sixth-straight appearance, and seventh overall.
