Women's Soccer Tops MidAmerica Nazarene With Golden Goal
Marshall, Mo., (Nov. 8, 2025)- The No. 2 seed Missouri Valley College women's soccer team hosted No. 3 seed MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) in the semifinal round of the Heart of America Athletic Conference Postseason Championship Saturday evening inside Volney C. Ashford Stadium. The teams went into overtime, and an early golden goal sealed a 2-1 victory for the Vikings.
Play began with the two teams trading possession through the opening 10-minutes. MidAmerica Nazarene created the better opportunities over the next stretch, putting three shots on goal over a four-minute span, all saved by Senior Goalkeeper Marina Barbara Bujalance (Cornella Llobregat, Spain). Missouri Valley began to build up possession, and a long pass from Senior Defender Daijah White (Tucson, Ariz.) was collected by Senior Forward Ashley Arribas (Lake Forest, Calif.) near the MNU box. Arribas put the first shot on goal for MVC past the Pioneer keeper and into the net to move Missouri Valley in front midway through the half, 1-0. MidAmerica Nazarene came close to tying the contest near the 24-minute mark, as Barbara Bujalance made another save. The Vikings countered with a shot on goal less than one minute later, but the attempt from Senior Midfielder Judit Ferre (Barcelona, Spain) was saved. Barbara Bujalance was needed for one more save, with less than eight minutes remaining until the break, to keep the team in front. Missouri Valley tested the MNU keeper twice in the final four minutes, as shots from Ferre and Senior Forward Viktoria Einsbor (Havdrup, Denmark) were both saved. The Vikings went into halftime holding a 1-0 lead.
The two teams opened the second half trading possession through the 62-minute mark. After MNU earned a pair of corner kicks, Missouri Valley countered with two shots on goal. The chances from Arribas and Junior Defender Heliamar Mora (Yaracuy, Venezuela) were both saved, and the score stayed at 1-0 midway through the second half. With just under 20-minutes remaining in regulation, the Pioneers created a chance on goal, and found the equalizer to tie the teams at 1-1. Senior Forward Marlene Flores (Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia) tried to put MVC back in front, but her shot was saved less than seven minutes later. MidAmerica Nazarene was unable to put another shot on goal through the rest of the half, and Arribas came close to a last-second goal as a header was saved. The teams stayed tied at 1-1 at the end of regulation, sending the contest into overtime.
The overtime period began with Missouri Valley taking possession. The pair of Ferre and Senior Midfielder Carla Carmona (Barcelona, Spain) worked together to eventually get a pass up to Arribas near the MNU box. Arribas moved towards goal, and sent a shot from 14-yards out over the keeper's head and scored a golden goal winner to give the Vikings a 2-1 victory.
Arribas scored both goals for the Vikings, her fourth multi-goal game of the season. Arribas now has a team-high 14 goals and 31 points. Ferre has a team-high seven assists, while Carmona and White both added their fifth assists of the season. Sophomore Defender Lucia Torres Vizcaino (Malaga, Spain) has three assists this season.
