No. 12 Women's Soccer Plays No. 4 Columbia to Tie at Home

Marshall, Mo., (Sept. 2, 2025)- The No. 12 Missouri Valley College women's soccer team welcomed No. 4 Columbia (Mo.) into Volney C. Ashford Stadium for a non-conference game Tuesday evening.  The Vikings scored early and had late chances on goal, but settled for a 1-1 tie.

Missouri Valley produced the first opportunity on goal, coming with a little more than six minutes played in the contest.  Senior Midfielder Madi Hudson (Sandbach, England) sent a corner kick towards the Columbia goal, and Senior Defender Daijah White (Tucson, Ariz.) scored on a close-range header to put the Vikings on top, 1-0.  The Cougars answered back, and tested the MVC keeper twice over the next 12 minutes.  Junior Goalkeeper Lola Martinez Benitez (Madrid, Spain) came up with two saves to help keep Missouri Valley in front.  Possession was traded between the two teams through much of the half, and both struggled to create any quality chances.  The Vikings went into halftime holding the 1-0 advantage.

Play in the second half started with an early chance for MVC, as a header from Senior Forward Marlene Flores (Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia) needed to be saved by the CC keeper with just over three minutes played after the restart.  Moments later, Senior Midfielder Judit Ferre (Barcelona, Spain) put a shot on goal, which was also saved.  Missouri Valley kept the pressure up over the next stretch, forcing the Cougar keeper into two more saves through the 58-minute mark.  Six minutes later, Columbia had its best opportunity of the half, and scored on the chance to tie the teams at 1-1.  The Cougars came close to going in front, but Martinez Benitez made another save with a little more than 20 minutes played in the half.  Both teams had possession through the next stretch of play, and MVC had opportunities late in the game.  Ferre created a chance with two minutes remaining, which was saved, and Senior Defender Marta Carrasco Mesa (Sevilla, Spain) put a last-second shot near goal, but could not find the game-winner.  The teams ended in a 1-1 tie.

White scored her first goal of the season and Hudson recorded her first assist.  Martinez Benitez made three saves in goal.  Missouri Valley held a 17-7 advantage in shots and produced three corner kicks.

Missouri Valley moves to 1-0-2 on the season, and Columbia sits at 0-2-1.

Up next, the Viking women's soccer team will host Dordt (Iowa) in a non-conference game, Saturday at 11 a.m., inside Volney C. Ashford Stadium.
