Women's Lacrosse Tops Nebraska on the Road
On Nov. 2nd Missouri Valley College Women's Lacrosse traveled to Nebraska to play the
University of Nebraska Women's Lacrosse team.
Missouri Valley started play with back to back quick scores, one by Sophomore Hailey Davis
assisted by Freshman Ashley Halter and the other scored by Freshman Ava Graham assisted
by Junior Hailey Harmon. After a few minutes and traded possessions, Nebraska got on the
board with a goal of their own but it was quickly answered back by the Vikings with Hailey Davis
scoring again. Nebraska controlled the next 2 draws and turned them into goals. The last three
minutes of play in the quarter belonged to the Vikings who moved the ball around well to find
Hailey Davis for 2 more goals to end the quarter 5-3 MVC.
The second quarter started by a quick draw control and score by Ashley Halter. However the
Cornhuskers responded with 3 goals of their own before the Vikings could control the ball and
get another opportunity to score. That opportunity soon found itself in the shot of Hailey Davis
and the next possession was taken by the Vikings as well when Ashley Halter made quick work
of the defense to score another goal for MVC. However, Nebraska managed to score 4 more
times to close out the half making the score at halftime 10-8 in Nebraska's favor.
The second half opened up with great defense being played throughout the 3rd quarter. Ashley
Halter finally found the back of the net about halfway through the quarter but Nebraska quickly
got a goal also to maintain their lead. A turnover with seconds left on the clock before the 3rd
quarter ended lead to a Senior Tyra McKenzie at the buzzer and helping MVC cut into the
Nebraska lead. At the end of the 3rd quarter the score was 11-10 for Nebraska.
The fourth quarter started with Nebraska adding to its lead with a quick goal off of the draw
control. But from that point on it was all Vikings as Hailey Davis scored a goal followed by a
quick score from Ashley Halter to tie the game up. Soon after Freshman Tiyanna Thomas
scored a goal to put Valley on top. The next draw was controlled by the Vikings and Hailey
Davis had an assist to a great shot on goal by Ava Graham. Soon after the final ball was
controlled by MVC and Freshman Perla Baker found the back of the net assisted by Hailey
Davis. The game ended with a score of 15-12 for the Vikings.
This ends fall play for the Women's Lacrosse team. The Viking's will pick back up in January
with practice and their first contest will be a scrimmage against Drury on Feb. 15th at home,
season will officially start with Culver-Stockton on Feb.22nd at home.
