Golf Teams Open Spring Season at Columbia Spring Invite

Columbia, Mo., (March 11, 2025)- The Missouri Valley College men's and women's golf teams opened the spring competition season at the Columbia (Mo.) Spring Invitational, played at the Columbia (Mo.) Country Club.  The men's team placed third, with two top ten finishers, and the women's team produced a first-place individual.

 

Leading the men's team was Junior Chad Coburn (Bloemfontein, South Africa), who finished fifth at +2 (144).  Coburn had the lowest first-round score, finishing with a -1 (70), then followed with a +3 (74) in the second round, sitting five strokes back of first place. Junior  Nelius De Jager (Upington, South Africa) followed in ninth place, with a final score of +5 (147).  De Jager shot a +3 (74) in the first round, and had a +2 (73) in the second round.  Sophomore Sebastian Liffers (Heitersheim, Germany) placed at No. 19 with a two-round score of +9 (151), and Freshman Brad Storrer (Harare, Zimbabwe) was the final team scorer with a +15 (157) to place at No. 38.  Junior Nico Booyens (Centrurion, South Africa) totaled a +19 (161) to place at No 55.

 

The men's team finished with a total score of +31 (599) to place third overall.  Columbia won the tournament with a +4 (572) and William Woods (Mo.) was third with a +6 (574).

 

Leading the women's team was Junior Hanna Rieker (Munich, Germany), who finished in a tie for first overall in the tournament.  Reiker opened with a +10 (82) in the first round, then shot a +5 (77) in the second round to end with a +15 (159) to come out on top of the leaderboard.  Freshman Sydney Righter (Camdenton, Mo.) followed at No. 23 with a +38 (182), and Junior Madison Mills (Willard, Mo.) added a +51 (195) to place at No. 33.  Team final team scorer was Freshman Shelby Welling (Jefferson City, Mo.) with a +61 (205) to place at No. 36.

 

As a team, the Vikings finished seventh with a total score of +161 (737).  Columbia won the tournament with a +79 (655).

 

Up next, the men's team will play at the Verhille Invitational at Old Kinderhook in Camdenton, Mo., March 17-18.  Both teams will compete at the Central Methodist (Mo.) Spring Invite, March 24-25, at Hail Ridge Golf Course in Boonville, Mo.
