Golf Teams Compete at CMU Fall Invite, Women's Team Places Second
Boonville, Mo., (Sept. 24, 2024)- The Missouri Valley College men's and women's golf teams competed at the CMU Fall Invite at Hail Ridge Golf Course in Boonville, Mo. The women's team finished second overall, led by the individual runner-up.
The women's team was led by Junior Hanna Rieker (Munich, Germany) who finished with a two-round total of +16 (158) as the tournament runner-up. Rieker finished five shots back of first place. Sophomore Kendra Warden (Ontario, Canada) followed with a +28 (170) to place tenth and Junior Madison Mills (Willard, Mo.) totaled a +36 (138) to finish at No. 14. Freshman Sydney Righter (Camdenton, Mo.) rounded out the team scorers with a +37 (139) to place at No. 15, and Freshman Victoria Menard Varela (Coruna, Spain) placed at No. 24 with a +48 (190). Freshman Shelby Welling (Jefferson City, Mo.) played as an individual and placed at No. 29 with a +68 (210).
As a team, the Vikings placed second in the standings with a total of +115 (683). Columbia (Mo.) won the tournament with a +78 (646). This is the highest placing at a tournament for the women's golf team since Sept. of 2018.
The men's team had its "B" and "C" teams competed at the tournament. Leading the "B" team was Junior Dominic Hoskin (Witham, England) who shot a two-round score of +8 (150) to place at No. 17. Freshman Tyler Adams (St. Charles, Mo.) placed at No. 28 with a score of +12 (154), followed by Senior Isaac Taleb (Pereira, Colombia) who came in at No. 39 with a +17 (159). Sophomore Julian Ayape (Bayonne, France) finished out the team scorers with a +22 (164) to place at No. 54.
Leading the "C" team was Freshman Mateo Cadario (Santa Cruz, Bolivia) who came in at No. 28 with a +12 (154). Senior Leonardo Borzaga (Trento, Italy), Freshman Tomas Ayape (Bayonne, France) and Freshman Guillermo Gil Llorens (Alcala de Henares, Spain) all finished with a +19 (161) to place at No. 47. Freshman Troy Watson (Westland, Mich.) added a +22 (164) to place at No. 54.
The "B" team placed ninth with a total of +59 (627), and the "C" team placed tenth with a +67 (635). William Woods (Mo.) won the tournament with a -13 (555).
Up next, the men's golf team competes at the Memphis Shootout at TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tenn., Oct. 7-8. The women's team will compete at the TPC Deere Run Invitational at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill., Oct. 14-15.
