Women's Basketball Falls on the Road to Culver-Stockton

Canton, Mo., (Feb. 14, 2026)- The Missouri Valley College men's and women's basketball team traveled to Canton, Mo., for a Heart of America Athletic Conference doubleheader with Culver-Stockton (Mo.), Saturday afternoon. The women's team fell by a 56-41 final score, while the men's team took an early lead and earned a X-X win.

Missouri Valley opened the women's game with a layup from Sophomore Forward Lexi Fenstermacher (O'Fallon, Mo.), and Junior Guard Jessica Reeter (Chillicothe, Mo.) followed with two free throws to move in front, 4-2, with nearly two minutes into the game.  The two teams traded points through the next several minutes, featuring a jumper from Reeter, a free throw each from Senior Center Sara Ortiz (La Roda, Spain) and Fenstermacher, but Culver-Stockton eventually took the lead, 9-7, near the four-minute mark.  The Vikings used a layup apiece from Reeter and Freshman Bianca Sarbu (Bucharest, Romania) late in the quarter, but Missouri Valley trailed, 14-12, at the end of the first quarter.

Culver-Stockton limited MVC to only two points in the opening four minutes of play in the second quarter.  Junior Jozelynn Bostick (Centralia, Mo.) ended the Vikings drought with a three point shot to close the gap down to 18-17 midway through the quarter.  Both teams struggled to score points over the next stretch of play, but Missouri Valley eventually went in front as Fenstermacher scored the next four points.  Bostick sank another three-pointer with under a minute left to send MVC into halftime in front, 24-22.

The Wildcats began the third quarter with a basket just over a minute after the restart to go on top, 25-24.  Culver-Stockton held Missouri Valley scoreless through more than four minutes of play, and Senior Guard Sophie Sullivan (Lombard, Ill.) eventually scored the first points of the quarter for the Vikings to cut its deficit down to 28-27 midway through the quarter.  The Wildcats outscored MVC by a 12-1 margin to stretch their lead to double-digits just over the next two minutes, 42-28.  Scoring through the rest of the quarter featured a layup from Fenstermacher, a pair of free throws from Sullivan, and a three-pointer from Bostick, but the Vikings trailed 51-35 going into the fourth quarter.  Missouri Valley held CSC to only five points in the fourth quarter, but the Vikings were unable to close its deficit down to single-digits, and fell by a final score of 56-41.

Fenstermacher led with 11 points and seven rebounds, while Bostick followed with nine points.  Sullivan came off the bench to score eight points. Reeter added six points.  Missouri Valley held a 32-30 advantage in rebounds, and forced CSC into 10 turnovers.

Missouri Valley falls to 14-11 on the season and 11-7 in the Heart.  Culver-Stockton improves to 18-8 overall and 12-6 in the conference.

Up next, the Viking men's and women's basketball team will travel to Baldwin City, Mo., for a Heart doubleheader with Baker (Kan.), Monday.  Make-up from Jan. 24.  Women's game at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men's game at 7:30 p.m.
