Women's Basketball Drops Road Game at Missouri Baptist

St. Louis, Mo, (Feb. 11, 2026)- The Missouri Valley College men's and women's basketball teams traveled to St. Louis, Mo., for a Heart of America Athletic Conference doubleheader against Missouri Baptist, Wednesday evening.  The Viking women's team fell late, 56-53, and the men's team lost, 82-64.

The women's game began with back-to-back three-pointers made by Junior Guard Jessica Reeter (Chillicothe, Mo.) to put Missouri Valley ahead, 6-0, with less than one minute played in the contest.  Reeter added a layup one minute later, and Missouri Baptist was kept scoreless through more than three minutes to open play in the game, as MVC held an 8-0 lead.  The Vikings continued to increase their advantage midway through the quarter, as Senior Center Sara Ortiz (La Roda, Spain) made a layup and Freshman Guard Maddison Mills (Farmington, Mo.) sank a three-point shot to make it a 13-2 score past the four-minute mark.  The Spartans briefly cut their deficit down to single-digits, but the final basket of the quarter was another three-pointer from Mills.  Missouri Valley forced five turnovers in the quarter, and went into the second quarter on top, 16-5.

The first made field goal by either team to start play in the second quarter came more than two minutes after the restart, as MBU cut its deficit to 17-7.  Ortiz followed with a layup moments later, and Junior Guard Jozelynn Bostick (Centralia, Mo.) added a jumper near the six-minute mark to put the score at 21-7.  Reeter finished off a three-point play less than one minute later, and MVC held a 24-9 advantage.  Missouri Baptist went on a 7-0 run through the four-minute mark to close the gap down to 24-16.  Reeter pushed the lead back to double-digits over the next stretch, scoring eight-straight points for the Vikings, and helping the team stay in front, 32-18, with just over two minutes to play before halftime.  The Vikings went scoreless over the final two minutes of play, and eventually went into the break holding a 32-21 lead.

The third quarter featured Missouri Baptist outscoring the Vikings by an 18-4 margin, which sent MVC into the final quarter of play trailing, 39-36.  Scoring in the fourth quarter started with a three-pointer from Reeter to tie the teams at 39-39.  The Spartans responded by outscoring Missouri Valley with a 7-1 run over the next four minutes to go back in front, 46-40.  Another Reeter three-pointer, nearly midway through the quarter, ended the MVC drought, while a layup from Senior Guard Sophie Sullivan (Lombard, Ill.) put the team in a 46-45 deficit with less than four minutes remaining in the game.  Missouri Valley reclaimed the lead moments later, as a three-pointer from Bostick put the team ahead, 48-46.  The Spartans tied the game once again on their next possession, while a pair of free throws by Sullivan sent MVC back on top, 50-48.  Two more made free throws by Reeter gave the Vikings a 52-51 advantage with just over one minute remaining.  Missouri Valley came up empty on its next possession, and MBU followed with a three-point basket to move ahead, 54-52, with less than 30-seconds on the clock.  Reeter drew a foul with 10-seconds to play, but only made one free throw.  Missouri Baptist responded with two made free throws to extend its lead, and a last-second three-point attempt from Bostick missed to end the game, as the Vikings fell, 56-53.

Reeter finished with 30 points, the third time this season she has reached the 30-point mark.  Bostick added seven points and Sophomore Forward Lexi Fenstermacher led with eight rebounds.  Missouri Valley forced 13 turnovers in the game.

The loss drops Missouri Valley to 14-10 overall and 11-6 in the Heart.  Missouri Baptist improves to 10-13 on the season and 9-8 in the conference.

Up next, the Viking basketball teams stay on the road, and travel to Canton, Mo., for a Heart doubleheader against Culver-Stockton (Mo.), Saturday.  Women's game at 2 p.m., followed by the men's game at 4 p.m.
