Women's Basketball Uses Record Performance in Win Over Grand View

Marshall, Mo. (Jan. 10, 2026)- The Missouri Valley College men's and women's basketball teams welcomed Grand View (Iowa) into the Burns Athletic Complex for a Saturday afternoon Heart of America Athletic Conference doubleheader.  The women's team used a record-setting performance to earn a 66-42 win.  The men's team went into double-overtime, but fell by a 97-92 score.

Missouri Valley opened the women's game with a 7-0 run, as Freshman Guard Bianca Sarbu (Bucharest, Romania) and Senior Center Sara Ortiz (La Roda, Spain) each made a layup and Senior Guard Jessica Reeter (Chillicothe, Mo.) sank a three-point shot.  Grand View worked back to a 7-6 deficit midway through the quarter, while Sarbu ended a more than three-minute MVC drought with another layup. Ortiz then added a basket to put the score at 11-6 near the four-minute mark.  The two teams went without another point through the next three minutes.  The last Missouri Valley field goal of the quarter came from Junior Guard Jozelynn Bostick (Centralia, Mo.) to help send the team into the second quarter on top, 13-10.

Play in the second quarter began with a quick three-pointer from Freshman Guard Madison Mills (Farmington, Mo.), while a Reeter three-point shot near the eight-minute mark gave MVC a 19-10 advantage.  Grand View was held scoreless through nearly three minutes of play into the quarter, but a three-point field goal from Bostick extended the Missouri Valley lead to double-digits, at 22-12, with just over six minutes to play in the half.  Grand View worked back into the game, and cut its deficit to 22-18 over the next three minutes.  Sophomore Forward Lexi Fenstermacher (O'Fallon, Mo.) ended the GVU run with a layup, followed by a basket from Bostick to make it a 26-18 lead with less than two minutes on the clock.  Reeter added a three-pointer and Fenstermacher followed with a layup to send MVC back on top by double-digits, 31-21, in the closing moments.  Reeter added one more free throw to cap scoring for MVC, but Grand View worked back to a 32-25 deficit going into halftime.

The third quarter started with Missouri Valley holding GVU without a field goal through nearly seven minutes of play.  During the stretch, MVC outscoring Grand View by a 12-1 margin.  Bostick made a three-point shot, while Oritz and Fenstermacher followed with one basket apiece.  Freshman Guard Alice Lepetitgaland (Lyon, France) made a three-pointer, and Ortiz capped the run with a layup to make it a 46-26 score midway through the quarter.  Missouri Valley went more than four minutes without a field goal, until a Senior Guard Sophie Sullivan (Lombard, Ill.) layup ended the quarter at a 46-29 score.  Grand View was held to only four points in the quarter.

The Missouri Valley advantage grew to open the fourth quarter, as Fenstermacher made a jumper and Reeter added a free throw to put the lead at 49-29 one minute into play.  Mills added seven points, to go with a basket from Fenstermacher, over the next three minutes to stretch the gap out to 58-32.  Sullivan and Reeter each had one field goal through the four-minute mark, and MVC ran out the game from there.  Junior Guard Manuela Perez De Castro (Madrid, Spain) ended the contest with one more made shot, and Missouri Valley earned a 66-42 win.

Reeter recorded her second double-double of the season, scoring 15 points and adding 11 assists with six rebounds.  Fenstermacher had 10 points and seven rebounds, while Mills added 10 points and five rebounds.  Bostick came off the bench to add 10 points.  Ortiz set a new single-game record for the program, coming down with 22 total rebounds, including 17 defensive rebounds, to go with eight points.  This breaks the previous record of 21 rebounds from Bonnie Johnson, set against Central Methodist (Mo.) back on Feb. 14, 2008.  As a team, Missouri Valley held Grand View to 27-percent shooting, and held a 55-35 advantage in rebounds.

Missouri Valley improves to 10-6 overall and 7-2 in the Heart.  Grand View drops to 11-6 on the season and 8-1 in the conference.

Up next, the Viking basketball teams host Culver-Stockton (Mo.) in a Heart doubleheader, Wednesday evening.  Women's game starts at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men's game at 7:30 p.m.
