Women's Basketball Earns Double-Digit Win at Home Over Health Sciences & Pharmacy
Marshall, Mo., (Dec. 11, 2025)- The Missouri Valley College women's basketball team hosted Health Sciences & Pharmacy (Mo.) in a non-conference game Thursday evening inside the Burns Athletic Complex. The Vikings led by double-digits through much of the second half, and finished with a 74-60 victory.
The two teams traded baskets at the start of the contest, as Freshman Guard Madison Mills (Farmington, Mo.) and Sophomore Forward Lexi Fenstermacher (O'Fallon, Mo.) both made three-point attempts, to go with a field goal from Junior Guard Jozelynn Bostick (Centralia, Mo.) to help keep the team on top, 8-7, with just over two minutes played. The Vikings went scoreless over a more than two minute stretch until a pair of free throws by Junior Guard Jessica Reeter (Chillicothe, Mo.) put the team ahead, 10-9. Health Sciences and Pharmacy briefly went in front with a basket one minute later, but Missouri Valley followed with a 7-0 run. Reeter started the stretch with a three-pointer, followed by a layup from Freshman Forward Lilyan Landis (Scott City, Mo.). The run was capped on a jumper from Freshman Guard Tara Rivas (San Salvador, El Salvador), and MVC held a 17-11 advantage with less than two minutes to play in the quarter. After a Eutectic free throw, the Vikings increased their lead to double-digits as Senior Guard Sophie Sullivan (Lombard, Ill.) sank a pair of three-pointers and Freshman Forward Bianca Sarbu (Bucharest, Romania) added two made free throws to eventually send the team into the second quarter ahead, 25-14.
Both teams struggled to score points at the start of the second quarter, with a Reeter three-pointer as the only field goal through nearly four minutes of play. Health Sciences and Pharmacy cut its deficit down to 28-18 near the six-minute mark, while Reeter came up with a steal and a fast-break layup moments later to make it a 30-18 score. The teams went through another scoreless drought until a basket by UHSP with less than two minutes remaining. The final points of the quarter for Missouri Valley came on a pair of free throws by Sullivan, and the team held a 32-21 lead at halftime.
The Vikings increased their advantage to start play in the third quarter on a Reeter three-pointer and Ortiz jumper as the score sat at 37-21 with less than two minutes played. The two teams traded points over the next several minutes, which featured a pair of made free throws from both Fenstermacher and Ortiz. The Eutectics began to chip away at their deficit, and worked back to a 41-30 score at the four-minute mark. Reeter responded with a three-pointer moments later, but UHSP eventually trailed by single-digits, 44-35, with less than two minutes remaining in the quarter. The next five Viking points came from Reeter late in the quarter, and a last-second Health Sciences and Pharmacy basket put the MVC lead at 49-37 going into the fourth quarter.
Missouri Valley held UHSP scoreless through the opening three minutes of the fourth quarter, and used a basket from Rivas and three-pointer by Freshman Guard Alice Lepetitgaland (Lyon, France) to stretch the advantage out to 54-37. Two made free throws by Reeter put the score at 56-39 with just over six minutes to play in the contest. Health Sciences and Pharmacy followed with a 7-0 run to work back to a 56-46 deficit midway through the quarter. The two teams traded free throws and field goals over the next two minutes of play until a pair of Reeter free throws helped MVC hold a 64-52 lead at the three-minute mark. Bostick added a three-pointer one minute later, and Ortiz finished off a layup to put the advantage at 70-54 late in the contest. The final points of the game for MVC came on another layup by Ortiz and two final free throws from Reeter to finish out a 74-60 win.
Reeter led with a season-high 30 points, making 13 of 14 attempts from the free throw line, to go with four rebounds. Ortiz added 10 points and four rebounds, while Fenstermacher had five points and nine rebounds, and Sullivan scored nine points off the bench. Missouri Valley held a 51-44 advantage in rebounds and forced 21 turnovers in the game, holding UHSP to 25-percent shooting from the floor.
Missouri Valley improves to 7-5 on the season, while Health Sciences & Pharmacy drops to 3-7.
Up next, the Viking women's basketball team will play another home non-conference game, Tuesday at 3 p.m., hosting Bethel (Kan.).
