Women's Basketball Drops Road Game at Brescia
Owensboro, Ky. (Nov. 29, 2025)- The Missouri Valley College women's basketball team traveled to Owensboro, Ky., for a non-conference game against Brescia (Ky.), Saturday afternoon. The Vikings held a lead at halftime, but fell in the contest by a final score of 63-56.
Missouri Valley took an early lead at the start of the first quarter as Freshman Guard Tara Rivas (San Salvador, El Salvador) and Sophomore Forward Lexi Fenstermacher (O' Fallon, Mo.) each put in layups to make it a 4-0 score with nearly three minutes played. Fenstermacher added another layup less than one minute later, and the two teams stayed close throughout the first quarter. Senior Guard Sophie Sullivan (Lombard, Ill.) added a basket at the three-minute mark, while Freshman Guard Alice Lepetitgaland (Lyon, France) sank a three-pointer late in the quarter to help MVC sit with a 12-10 advantage going into the second quarter of play.
Brescia went in front in the first minute of play in the second quarter, at 14-12. Missouri Valley responded with a 7-0 run, as Rivas added a pair of jump shots and Lepetitgaland hit a three-pointer to put the team ahead, 19-14 with less than three minutes played. Brescia responded to tie the teams near the six-minute mark, while a three-pointer from Freshman Guard Bianca Sarbu (Bucharest, Romania) sent MVC back in front, 22-19, with less than six minutes to play before the break. The two teams traded points over the next stretch, which featured a steal and fast-break layup from Sophomore Guard Seilani Relford (Aurora, Colo.) to give the Vikings a 26-23 lead with just over two minutes to play in the quarter. Missouri Valley closed scoring in the half on free throws made by both Freshman Forward Lilyan Landis (Scott City, Mo.) and Relford to put the team's advantage at 30-25 going into halftime.
Missouri Valley added to its advantage to start play in the third quarter, as Freshman Guard Maddison Mills (Farmington, Mo.) and Junior Guard Jozelynn Bostick (Centralia, Mo.) each made three-pointers to put the lead at double-digits, 36-25. Fenstermacher added the next four points for MVC, as the team stayed in front, 40-31, near the six-minute mark. The Vikings went scoreless over the next five minutes, as Brescia responded with an 8-0 run. Lepetitgaland ended the drought with a layup, but Brescia closed the quarter with two late field goals to move ahead and hold a 43-42 lead at the end of the third.
Scoring for Missouri Valley started in the fourth quarter on a layup from Relford, followed by a three-pointer by Mills to put the team on top, 47-46, with two minutes played. Junior Guard Jessica Reeter (Chillicothe, Mo.) added a layup to tie the teams at 49-49, but Brescia began to pull away over the next stretch. The Vikings sat in a 58-52 deficit with less than two minutes to play. Sarbu made a pair of free throws moments later to cut into the gap, but Brescia made five late free throws to hand the Vikings a 63-56 defeat.
Fenstermacher had eight points and six rebounds, while both Relford and Lepetitgaland came off the bench to score eight points. The Vikings forced 13 turnovers in the game and came down with 14 offensive rebounds.
The loss drops Missouri Valley to 4-5 overall, while Brescia improves to 5-3.
Up next, the Viking women's basketball team will return to Heart of America Athletic Conference play, going to Fayette, Mo., for a contest with Central Methodist (Mo.), Wednesday evening. Women's game starts at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men's game at 7:30 p.m.
