Women's Basketball Falls to Briar Cliff

Atchison, Kan., (Nov. 8, 2025)- The Missouri Valley College women's basketball team continued play at the Benedictine (Kan.) Classic in Atchison, Kan., with a Saturday afternoon game against Briar Cliff (Iowa).  The Vikings suffered a defeat to close out the event.

The game started with Briar Cliff building up a 9-0 lead.  The first field goal of the contest for Missouri Valley came nearly four minutes into play, on a three-pointer from Senior Guard Sophie Sullivan (Lombard, Ill.).  Briar Cliff built up a double-digit lead midway through the quarter, at 14-3.  Junior Guard Jozelynn Bostick (Centralia, Mo.) followed with a field goal and Junior Guard Jessica Reeter (Chillicothe, Mo.) added two free throws to help close the gap down to 14-7 less than one minute later.  Later in the quarter, Freshman Guard Alice Lepeititgaland (Lyon, France) came up with a steal that led to a Bostick basket, while Sullivan added one more made field goal to put the team's deficit at 21-11 going into the second quarter.

Briar Cliff stretched out its advantage to 29-11 in the first two minutes of the second quarter, and a Lepetitgaland three-pointer made it a 29-14 score moments later.  The Vikings went on a nearly five minute stretch without a made field goal, until a Bostick three-pointer made it a 39-18 score near the three-minute mark.  The Vikings used late baskets from Junior Forward Manuela Perez De Castro (Madrid, Spain), Senior Center Gabriela Modeva (Ohrid, Macedonia) and Freshman Forward Tara Rivas (San Salvador, El Salvador) to trade points with BCU, but Missouri Valley went into halftime trailing, 42-24.

The deficit grew for the Vikings throughout the second half, as the team was outscored by a 53-31 margin the final two quarters of play.  Missouri Valley fell by a final score of 95-55.

Bostick came off the bench to score 10 points, while Sullivan added eight points off the bench.  The Vikings forced 15 turnovers in the game and blocked five shots.

The loss drops Missouri Valley to 1-2 overall, and Briar Cliff improves to 5-0 with the win.
