Men's Wrestling Wins Twice at St. Mary's Duals

Leavenworth, Kan., (Nov. 18, 2023)- The Missouri Valley College men's wrestling team competed at the St. Mary (Kan.) Duals in Leavenworth, Kan., Saturday. The Vikings finished with a 2-1 record on the day, defeating Oklahoma Wesleyan and No. 16 St. Mary, and losing to No. 12 Ottawa (Kan.).

Vs. Oklahoma Wesleyan

125 pounds: Sophomore Elijah Asuncion (Honolulu, Hawaii) defeated Daniel Glenn in a 14-4 major decision. Missouri Valley leads, 4-0.

133 pounds: Freshman Haden Hernandez (Huntington Beach, Calif.) defeated Zeke Wheeler in a 19-4 technical fall. Missouri Valley leads, 9-0.

141 pounds: Junior Donavan Parn (Brookfield Mo.) defeated No. 22 Donte Lopez in a 7-6 decision. Missouri Valley leads, 12-0.

149 pounds: No. 18 Junior Bryson Anderson (Milton, Wash.) lost to Maxximus Martinez in a first period pin. Missouri Valley leads, 12-6.

157 pounds: Junior Caleb Benshoof (Grain Valley, Mo.) defeated Jerome Cannon in a 7-2 decision. Missouri Valley leads, 15-6.

165 pounds: Sophomore Cole Patten (Lebanon, Mo.) defeated Braxton Bacon in a third period (5:38) pin. Missouri Valley leads, 21-6.

174 pounds: Freshman Jokiah Sewell (Mexico, Mo.) defeated Jaden Welden in an 8-6 decision. Missouri Valley leads, 24-6.

184 pounds: Senior Drake Tipton (Grain Valley, Mo.) defeated Bryan Ayala in a 19-4 technical fall. Missouri Valley leads, 29-6.

197 pounds: Sophomore Emmanuel Ayi-Bonte (Woodbridge, Va.) won by forfeit. Missouri Valley leads, 35-6.

285 pounds: No. 6 Senior Joshua Isaac (Woodbridge, Va.) defeated Christian Seebold in a first period (0:58) pin.

Missouri Valley defeated Oklahoma Wesleyan, 41-6.

125 pounds: Asuncion lost to No. 12 Brody Gee by fall. St. Mary leads, 6-0.

133 pounds: Hernandez defeated No. 10 Roman De La Cruz in a 10-2 major decision. St. Mary leads, 6-4.

141 pounds: Freshman Kristofer Arrey (Riverside, Calif.) lost to No. 13 Hartwell Taylor in an 11-1 major decision. St. Mary leads, 10-4.

149 pounds: No. 10 Senior Chase Zollmann (Poway, Calif.) defeated No. 20 Austin Almaguer in a 15-0 technical fall. St. Mary leads, 10-9.

157 pounds: Patten lost to Josey Jemegan in a 19-3 technical fall. St. Mary leads, 15-9.

165 pounds: Benshoof lost to Braden Headington in an 8-4 decision. St. Mary leads, 18-9.

174 pounds: Sewell defeated Ben Vogt by fall. St. Mary leads, 18-15.

184 pounds: Junior Brenden Parks (Elburn, III.) defeated Tanner VanScoy by fall. Missouri Valley leads, 21-18.

125 pounds: Asuncion defeated No. 23 Benjamin Pope in a 6-4 decision. Missouri Valley leads, 3-0.

133 pounds: Hernandez defeated No. 24 Brande Ledford in a 13-3 major decision. Missouri Valley leads, 7-0.

141 pounds: Arrey defeated Alanzo Borjas in a 21-4 technical fall. Missouri Valley leads, 12-0.

149 pounds: No. 18 Anderson lost to No. 20 Bradon Kidd by fall. Missouri Valley leads, 12-6.

157 pounds: No. 10 Zollmann lost to No. 15 Francis Morrisey by disqualification. Teams are tied, 12-12.

165 pounds: Patten lost to No. 12 Dayton Hill by fall. Ottawa leads, 18-12.

174 pounds: Parks lost to No. 12 Braden Anderson in a 15-4 major decision. Ottawa leads, 22-12.

184 pounds: Tipton defeated Jordan Lomeli in a 22-7 technical fall. Ottawa leads, 22-17.

197 pounds: Ayi-Bonte lost to No. 1 @184 Jesse Daniel Perez by fall. Ottawa leads, 28-17.

285 pounds: No. 6 Isaac won by forfeit.

No. 12 Ottawa defeated Missouri Valley, 28-24. 

Missouri Valley moves to 3-1 on the season in duals.

"We wrestled well in all three duals," said Head Coach Pat Giangrosso. "We battled in all of our matches. The guys are improving every match. This is just another step in the right direction"

Up next, the Vikings men's wrestling team will meet Graceland (Iowa) in a dual in Lamoni, Iowa, on Nov. 30th at 7 p.m.
