Tennis Teams Both Top St. Mary to Open Spring Season
Marshall, Mo., (Feb. 25, 2025)- The Missouri Valley College men's and women's tennis teams opened their spring competition seasons with matches at home against St. Mary (Kan.), Tuesday afternoon at Indian Foothills Park. The men's team won, 6-1 in matches, while the women's team earned a 5-2 victory.

No. 1-Junior Alecson Deschamps (Bluemenau, Brazil)/Freshman Richard Tasev (Lisbon, Portugal) defeated Nils Dueppe/Evan Martiz, 6-2.
No. 2-Sophomore Alvaro Ruiz (Barcelona, Spain)/Sophomore Marc Bueso (Manresa, Spain) lost to Carlos Grimaldi/Nudem Koyuncu, 5-7.
No. 3-Sophomore Luca Stadtfeld (Cologne, Germany)/Sophomore Bogdan Zakharov (Astana, Kazakhstan) defeated Leyton Ross/Jack Contrucci, 6-0.
Singles:
No. 1-Ruiz lost to Grimaldi, 3-6, 4-6.
No. 2-Deschamps defeated Dueppe, 6-4, 0-6, 7-6.
No. 3-Bueso defeated Martiz, 2-6, 7-5, 6-4.
No. 4-Stadtfeld defeated Koyuncu, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.
No. 5-Tasev defeated Contrucci, 7-5, 7-5.
No. 6-Junior Alex Ballinger (Northampton, England) defeated Ross, 6-2, 6-2.

No. 2-Sophomore Queralt Carbo (Barcelona, Spain)/Sophomore Keila Liebenberg (Hartbeespoort, South Africa) defeated Arsys Rojas/Rowen Wiemers, 6-2.
No. 3-Sophomore Deborah Mhizha (Masvingo, Zimbabwe)/Sophomore Hannah Brown (Marshall, Mo.) defeated Monse Guerrero-Chapula/Courtney Standley, 6-1.
Singles:
No. 1-Olvera lost to Llamas, 6-1, 6-1.
No. 2-Marciniuk defeated Finn, 6-4, 6-2.
No. 3-Mhizha lost to Rojas, 4-6, 5-7.
No. 4-Carbo defeated Wiemers, 7-6, 6-2
No. 5-Keila Liebenberg defeated Guerrero-Chapula, 6-2, 6-1.
No. 6-Senior Tristan Liebenberg (Hartbeespoort, South Africa) defeated Standley, 6-0, 6-4.
Both Viking tennis teams improved to 1-0 on the season in wins.
Up next, Missouri Valley will travel to Liberty, Mo., for matches against NCAA Division II William Jewell (Mo.), Friday, beginning at 12 p.m.
