Men's Tennis Tops William Jewell, Women's Team Falls in Road Matches

Liberty, Mo., (Feb. 25, 2024)- The Missouri Valley College men's and women's tennis played for the third day in-a-row, taking on NCAA Division II William Jewell (Mo.) in matches.  The men's team came away with a 4-3 victory, while the women's team fell, 6-1.

 

Men's Results:

Doubles:

No. 1-Freshman Sergio Martinez/Senior Francesco Caratti (Novara, Italy) lost to Julien Lafrechise/Greg Foltz, 2-6.

No. 2-Freshman Alvaro Ruiz/Sophomore Alecson Deschamps (Blumenau, Brazil) lost to Max Quennery/Caden Lingenfelser, 3-6.

No. 3-Freshman Ruslan Anvnev (Novorossysk, Russia)/Sophomore Alexis Diaz (Bordeaux, France) lost to Ugnius Bickauskis/Cory Conley, 3-6.

 

Singles:

No. 1-Martinez defeated Bickauskis, 6-4, 6-3

No. 2-Anvnev lost to Lafrenchise, 4-6, 4-6.

No. 3-Caratti defeated Quennery, 1-6, 6-2, 10-4.

No. 4-Diaz defeated Foltz, 4-6, 6-3, 10-8.

No. 5-Ruiz defeated Lingenfelser, 7-5, 6-2.

No. 6-Freshman Marc Bueso (Barcelona, Spain) lost to Ian Lewis, 2-6, 2-6.

 

Women's Results:

Doubles:

No. 1-Sophomore Claudia Casas (Tarragona, Spain)/Sophomore Renata Martinez (Mexico City, Mexico) lost to Julia Rabiej/Julia Santos, 4-6.

No. 2-Freshman Hannah Brown (Marshall, Mo.)/Freshman Laura Moreno lost to Gwyn Gifford/Maisie Markowitz, 1-6.

No. 3-Junior Tristan Liebenberg (Hatbeespoort, South Africa)/Freshman Deborah Mhizha lost to Molly McBratney/Abby Candelier, 2-6.

 

Singles:

No. 1-Martinez lost to Rabiej, 7-6, 6-7, 5-10.

No. 2-Brown lost to Gifford, 1-6, 5-7.

No. 3-Casas lost to Santos, 1-6, 1-6.

No. 4-Liebenberg lost to Markowitz, 3-6, 0-6.

No. 5-Moneno lost to McBratney, 1-6, 2-6.

No. 6-Mhizha defeated Chloe McDonnell, 6-1, 6-0.

 

The men's team improves to 4-3 on the season, while the women's team drops to 3-4.

 

Up next, the Viking tennis teams will play at home matches against Nationally ranked William Woods (Mo.) teams, March 16.  The men's team is ranked No. 6, and the women's team is ranked No. 9.
