Tennis Teams defeat Evangel at home in Saturday Matches
Marshall, Mo., (February 24, 2024)- The Missouri Valley College men's and women's tennis teams split contests with Evangel University at home for the first time in the spring season. The women's team won, 6-1 in matches, while the men's team also won, 7-0.
Men's Tennis:
Doubles:
No. 1-Freshman Sergio Martinez/Senior Francesco Caratti (Novara, Italy) defeated Vinicius Costa/Emilio Chavarria, 6-1.
No. 2-Freshman Alvaro Ruiz/Sophomore Alecson Adriano Deschamps (Blumenau, Brazil) defeated James McIlwraith/Gabriel Leal, 7-5.
No. 23 Freshman Tom Keen/Sophomore Alexis Diaz (Bordeaux, France) defeated Thomas Villamil/Tiago Galoppo, 6-3.
Singles:
No. 1-Martinez defeated Costa, 6-2, 6-2.
No. 2-Deschamps defeated Leal, 7-6, 6-1.
No. 3-Canatti defeated Chavarria, 6-2, 6-2.
No. 4-Diaz defeated Villamil, 6-1, 7-6.
No. 5-Ruiz defeated Mcllwraith, 6-0, 6-0.
No. 6-Bueso defeated Galoppo, 2-6, 7-5, 10-3.

No. 1-Sophomore Claudia Casas (Tarragona, Spain)/Sophomore Renata Martinez (Mexico City, Mexico) fell to Abigail Chaney/Rachel Chaney, 5-7.
No. 2-Freshman Hannah Brown (Marshall, Mo.)/Freshman Laura Moreno defeated McAtee/Alexia Phipps, 7-5.
No. 3-Junior Tristian Liebenberg (Hartbeespoort, South Africa)/ Freshman Deborah Mhizha fell to Lidia Bjelica/Courtney Yates, 6-3.
Singles:
No. 1-Martinez defeated A. Chaney, 6-3, 6-3.
No. 2-Brown fell to R. Chaney, 2-6, 2-6.
No. 3-Casas defeated Phipps, 6-3, 6-1.
No. 4-T. Liebenberg defeated Bjelica, 6-0, 4-8, 10-8.
No. 5-Moreno defeated McAtee, 2-6, 4-6, 10-7.
No. 6-K. Liebenberg defeated Yates, 6-2, 6-2.
Both the men and women's teams improved to 3-3 on the season.
