Men's Soccer to Host National Tournament Opening Round

Marshall, Mo., (April 20, 2021)- The Missouri Valley College men's soccer team learned its position in the 2020 NAIA Men's Soccer National Championship, Monday, and will be making the program's tenth appearance in the past eleven seasons in the National tournament. Missouri Valley will host matches in the Marshall (Mo.) Bracket, Thursday and Saturday at Volney C. Ashford Stadium.

The Missouri Valley men's soccer team was awarded the No. 1 seed in the Marshall Bracket, and takes an overall record of 14-4-1 into the National tournament. Missouri Valley secured the second automatic berth from the Heart of America Athletic Conference, after advancing to the Heart Postseason Championship Final. The Vikings are 16-8-1 all-time in the National tournament.

Spring Arbor (Mich.) will be the No. 2 seed in the bracket, and earned an automatic berth into the National tournament after winning the Crossroads League Postseason Tournament. Spring Arbor is 9-3-2 on the season, and makes the program's ninth appearance in the National tournament, and is 6-10 all-time in tournament play.

The No. 3 seed in the Marshall Bracket is Hastings (Neb.). Hastings is 11-3-1 on the season, and earned an at-large berth into the National tournament, out of the Great Plains Athletic Conference. Hastings is making the program's 16th all-time appearance in the National tournament, with a tournament record of 25-9-5.

Rio Grande (Ohio) is the No. 4 seed in the Marshall Bracket, making the program's 20th appearance in the National tournament. Rio Grande won the River States Athletic Conference Postseason Championship to earn an automatic berth, and is 14-4 on the season. The program is 24-15-3 all-time in the National tournament.

Thursday's schedule features Missouri Valley vs. Rio Grande at 2 p.m., followed by Spring Arbor vs. Hastings at 5 p.m. The winner of the two Thursday matches will play Saturday at 2 p.m., in the bracket final. Saturday's winner will advance to the National site near Augusta, Ga., with tournament play continuing May 4-10 at Blanchard Woods Park.

Missouri Valley College students, faculty and staff with valid MVC ID's will have free admission for each game. Missouri Valley College faculty and staff will be permitted one free additional guest admission. Tickets for all other spectators will cost $8 per person, and can be purchased at http://valleywillroll.com/ticketing. All spectators will be required to wear a mask at all times, and are asked to social distance while in attendance. No outside food or drink will be allowed inside Volney C. Ashford Stadium.
