Rodeo Teams Produce Four Event Average Winners at Southern Arkansas
Magnolia, Ark., (Oct. 12, 2025)- The Missouri Valley College men's and women's rodeo teams traveled to Magnolia, Ark., for the Southern Arkansas rodeo, over the weekend. The men's team finished first overall, and the women's team placed second, as the two teams combined for four event winners in the average.
In bareback riding, the men's team produced five of the top six cowboys in the average. Finishing first overall was Sophomore Jason Wilson (Bennington, Vt.) with a 156 in the average. Wilson was third in the first go-round with a 75, then won the first go-round with an 81. Wilson finished with 160 total points. Finishing second in the average was Sophomore Collin Roland (Childersburg, Ala.) with a 154, which included a second place finish in the first go-round with a 76 and a 78 in the second go-round to place third. Roland earned 140 points. Fourth in the average was Senior Kooper Heimburg (San Tan Valley, Ariz.) with a 149, which included rides of 72 and 77 to earn 80 points. Freshman Owen Prince (Humboldt, Ky.) was fifth in the average with a 147.5, putting up rides of 74.5 and 73 to earn 50 points and Senior Hayden Leavell (Ozark Ark.) was sixth in the average with a 139. Leavell had rides of 66 and 73, and earned 20 points. Sophomore Judd Pope (Garnett, Kan.) finished second in the second go-round with a 79 to earn 50 points and Freshman Kade Parrish (LaVelle, Wisc.) was sixth in the second go-round with a 74 to earn 10 points.
In saddle bronc riding, Sophomore Treg Huver (Nashville, Mich.) was first in the average with a 132 after finishing third in the first go-round with a 63 then winning the second go-round with 69. Huver earned 140 points. Freshman Creek Caldwell (Bainbridge, Ind.) earned 80 points after finishing third in the average with a 62, while Pope was second in the first go-round with a 72 and finished fourth in the average to earn 80 points. Junior Walker McAbee (Woodruff, S.C.) was second in the second go-round with a 66 to earn 50 points.
Also for the men's team, Freshman Jace Hensley (Paola, Kan.) finished second in the bull riding average with a 78.5. Hensley was second in the first go-round with the 78.5 and earned 100 points. Sophomore Riley Honeycutt (Alamosa, Colo.) finished third in the steer wrestling average with a 24.7. Honeycutt was fifth in the first go-round with an 8.0 and third in the second go-round with a 16.7 to earn 100 points. Freshman John Higgins (Greentop, Mo.) was fifth in the calf roping average with a 26.7 after posting a 13.0 in the first go-round and a 13.7 to place fifth in the second go-round. Higgins earned 40 points.
In goat tying, the Vikings produced three top placers in the average. Freshman Josie Waldenberger (Holmen, Wisc.) was first in the average with a 14.6, after finishing second in both go-rounds with rides of 7.4 and 7.2. Waldenberger totaled 160 points. Freshman Victoria Whitehead (Jones, Okla.) was second in the average with a 14.8. Whitehead was fourth in the first go-round with a 7.6, and was second in the second go-round with a 7.2, earning 130 points. Freshman Jolene Rhyne (Craig, Colo.) was fifth in the average with a 15.7 after rides of 8.2 and 7.5 to earn 50 points. Freshman Addyson Derr (Paola, Kan.) won the first go-round with a 7.0 and finished with 60 points.
In breakaway roping the Viking women's team had the average winner, as Sophomore Ruby Espey (Lone Jack, Mo.) finished with a 6.1 to place first. Espey had a 2.3 to finish third in the first go-round, then won the second go-round with a 3.8, and earned 160 points. Also, Sophomore Codie Vaughn (Searcy, Ark.) finished fourth in the average with a 2.3 in one ride. Vaughn was third in the first go-round with a 2.3 and earned 55 points. In barrel racing, Freshman Dakota Murphy (Freeburg, Ill.) was second in the average with a 32.04. Murphy was third in the first go-round with a 16.1 and second in the second go-round with a 15.94 to earn 140 points. Also, Junior Dally Orman (Blakesburg, Iowa) was sixth in the first go-round with a 16.28 and earned five points.
The Viking men's rodeo team was first overall with 670 points, followed by West Alabama in second place with 610 points. The Viking women's rodeo team was second in the standings with 240 points, trailing West Alabama which totaled 265 points
Up next, the Viking rodeo teams will compete at the Arkansas-Monticello rodeo in Monticello, Ark., Thursday through Saturday.
