Rodeo Teams Finish First & Second at East Mississippi

Meridian, Miss., (March 16, 2025)- The Missouri Valley College men's and women's rodeo teams traveled to Meridian, Miss., for the East Mississippi rodeo.  The Viking men's team captured first place with two event winners in the average.  The women's team finished second with one event winner.

 

Due to weather issues, the rodeo was limited to one go-round.  In bareback riding, the Vikings produced the top five placers.  Junior Kooper Heimburg (San Tan Valley, Ariz.) won the first go-round with an 83, and earned 145 points.  He was followed by Senior Drew Lind (Weyauwega, Wisc.) with an 81, earning 126 points, Junior Bryce Eck (Redfield, Kan.) in third with a 79, to earn 107 points, Freshman Collin Roland (Fayetteville, Ala.) with a 78, to earn 88 points, and Sophomore Jason Wilson (Pownal, Vt.) with a 77, to earn 69 points. 

 

In saddle bronc riding, Freshman Treg Huver (Nashville, Mich.) was second in the standings with a 74 in the first go-round, and earned 126 points.  Eck was third with a 73 to earn 107 points, and Freshman Judd Pope (Garnett, Kan.) was fourth with a 69 to earn 78.5 points.  Sophomore Walker McCabe (Woodruff, S.C.) was fifth with a 66 to earn 50 points.  Sophomore Carson Ball (Bruner, Mo.) placed first in steer wrestling, winning the event with a 4.4 in the first go-round to earn 145 points.  Ball also posted a 12.7 in the first go-round of calf roping, and collected 6.5 points.  Junior Hayden Leavell (Ozark, Ark.) had a 6.5 in the first go-round of calf roping, and earned 32 points.

 

The women's team was led by Freshman Kate Brisbane (Kearney, Mo.), who finished with a 7.6 in the first go-round of goat tying to earn 145 points and place first in the event.  Freshman Codie Vaughn (Searcy, Ark.) was fourth in the event, with an 8.3, and earned 69 points.  Sophomore Kalyani Das (Las Cruces, N.M.) was third in barrel racing, with a 14.77 in the first go-round, and collected 107 points.

 

The men's rodeo team finished first in the standings with 720.5 points.  West Alabama followed with 461 points.  The women's team was second overall with a total of 321 points.  Tennessee-Martin won the rodeo with 360.2 points.

 

Up next, the Viking rodeo teams will compete at the Pearl River (Miss.) rodeo, Thursday through Saturday in Poplarville, Miss.
