Men's Lacrosse Suffers Home Loss to No. 5 William Penn
Marshall, Mo., (April 10, 2024)- The Missouri Valley College men's and women's lacrosse teams hosted William Penn (Iowa) in a Heart of America Athletic Conference doubleheader Wednesday evening inside Volney C. Ashford Stadium. The women's team cut down a halftime deficit, but eventually fell by a final score of 15-8. The men's team dropped its game to the No. 5 Statesmen.
The men's team was led by Junior Attack Alvaro Atienza (Madrid, Spain), who scored two goals, coming off assists from Junior Defender Aleix Costa (Barcelona, Spain) and Junior Goalkeeper Jake Lipscomb (Boiling Springs, S.C.). Lipscomb also made 21 total saves in the game. Costa led with four ground balls. The Vikings forced 11 turnovers. Missouri Valley fell, 28-2.
Missouri Valley drops to 0-7 on the season and 0-5 in the conference. William Penn improves to 13-1 overall and 3-0 in the Heart.
Up next, the two teams will finish their regular seasons with home games this weekend. The women's team will host Culver-Stockton (Mo.) in a Heart contest, Saturday at 4 p.m. The men's team will host Midland (Neb.) in a non-conference game, Sunday at 1 p.m. Both games inside Volney C. Ashford Stadium.
