Men's Golf Captures Heart Preview Title, Women's Golf Produces Top Ten Finisher

Smithville, Mo., (Oct. 21, 2025)- The Missouri Valley College men's and women's golf teams competed this week at the Heart of America Athletic Conference Championship Preview at Paradise Point in Smithville, Mo.  The No. 16 men's team captured first place, with three individuals in the top five, and the women's team produced one top ten finisher.

 

Leading the men's team was Freshman Felipe Suarez (Cordoba, Argentina) who won the tournament by eight strokes with a final score of -6 (138) in his two rounds.  Suarez was the only golfer to finish both rounds under-par, totaling a -4 (68) in the first round and a -2 (70) in the second round.  Senior Chad Coburn (Bloemfontein, South Africa) followed in third place with a +3 (174), which included a -2 (70) in the second round.  Sophomore Brad Storrer (Harare, Zimbabwe) came in fifth with a +7 (151), and opened the tournament with an even-par (72) in the first round.  Junior Leo Burger (Johannesburg, South Africa) rounded out the team scorers with a +11 (155) to place at No. 11 and Junior Sebastian Liffers (Heitersheim, Germany) came in at No. 22 with a final score of +17 (161).

 

As a team, the Viking finished with a total score of +15 (591) topping No. 8 MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) in second place by 16 strokes at +31 (607).  Mount Mercy (Iowa) was third with a +42 (618).

 

The women's team was led by Junior Hanna Rieker (Munich, Germany) who finished seventh with a +22 (166) in her two rounds, seven strokes behind the individual champion.  Rieker posted the second-lowest score of the second round with a +9 (81).  Senior Kali Brown (Smithville, Mo.) came in at No. 26 with a +46 (190), Senior Madison Mills (Willard, Mo.) placed at No. 33 with a +51 (195) and Sophomore Sydney Righter (Camdenton, Mo.) completed the team scorers with a +54 (198) to place at No. 38.  Junior Jalynn Allen (Lebanon, Mo.) came in at No. 42 with a +61 (205).

 

The women's golf team placed seventh overall with a total score of +173 (749).  Mount Mercy won the tournament with a +94 (670).

 

Paradise Point will be the site of the Heart Championships in the spring.  This tournament finishes the fall competition schedule for both golf teams.
