Men's Golf With Record Performance, Women's Team Second at MVC Fall Invitational

Marshall, Mo., (Sept. 9, 2025)- The Missouri Valley College men's and women's golf teams hosted the MVC Fall Invitational at Indian Foothills Golf Course, Monday and Tuesday.  The men's team put up a record-setting performance, taking first place, while the women's team finished second overall.

 

Leading the men's "A" team was Freshman Felipe Suarez (Cordoba, Argentina), who finished with a three-round score of -17 (199), setting a new three-round record in the tournament.  Suarez shot a -7 (65) in the first round, a -4 (68) in the second round and a -6 (66) in the third round to win by three strokes.  Senior Chad Coburn (Bloemfontein, South Africa) followed in second with a final score of -14 (202), which included rounds of -5 (67), -3 (69), -6 (66).  Freshman Troy Taylor (Ballito, South Africa) followed at fourth with a -9 (207), and shot rounds of -5 (67), -4 (68) and even-par (72).  Finishing out the team scorers was Sophomore Brad Storrer (Harare, Zimbabwe) in sixth with a -4 (212), including a -3 (69) in the second round and a -2 (70) in the third round.  Junior Valentin Bosdari (Mendoza, Argentina) came in at No. 21 with a +2 (218) that included a -5 (67) in the first round.

 

The men's "B" team was led by Junior Leo Burger (Johannesburg, South Africa) who placed eighth with a final score of -3 (213).  Burger had a -2 (70) in the second round and a -1 (71) in the third round.  Senior Nelius De Jager (Upington, South Africa) followed at No. 12 with a -1 (215) that included rounds of -3 (69) and -2 (70).  Senior Ryan Van Eck (Port Elizabeth, South Africa) placed at No. 29 with a +4 (220) and shot a -1 (71) in the third round, while Senior Dominic Hoskin (Witham, England) finished out the team scorers with a +7 (223).  Freshman Rodrigo Bowen Martinez Casado (Gijon, Spain) added a +10 (226) to place at No. 45.

 

The men's "C" team was led by Sophomore Nolan Gordon (Salisbury, Mo.) who finished at No. 12 with a -1 (215) total, which included a -4 (68) in the second round.  Junior Sebastian Liffers (Heitersheim, Germany) came in at No. 19, totaling a +1 (217).  Liffers tied for the lowest round in the tournament, with a -6 (66) in the first round, and followed with a -1 (71) in the second round.  Freshman Tomas Suau (Cordoba, Argentina) followed at No. 36 with a +7 (223), coming in with a -2 (70) in the first round, and Sophomore Gabriel Pereira Leite (Lisbon, Portugal) finished out the team scorers with a +11 (227) to place at No. 48, finishing his tournament with a -1 (71) in the third round.  Freshman Justin Case (Fulton, Mo.) totaled a +29 (245) to finish at No. 85.

 

The men's "D" team was led by Junior Diego Yepez Sosa (Cabudare Lara, Venezuela) who placed at No. 33 with a +6 (222), and Sophomore Tyler Adams (St. Charles, Mo.) followed at No. 43 with a +9 (225), including a -2 (70) in the second round to place at No. 43.  Sophomore Jan Stals Van Rooyen (Cape Town, South Africa) placed at No. 58 with a +14 (230) while both Freshman Kannon Kovar (Wylie, Texas) and Freshman Esteban Cervantes (Malaga, Spain) tied for No. 70 overall with a +18 (234).

 

The men's "E" team was led by Senior Jules Garret (Lyon, France) who finished at +3 (219), carding a -5 (67) in the second round, to place at No. 26.  Sophomore Guillermo Gil Llorens (Alcala de Henares, Spain) followed at No. 36 with a +7 (223), and had a -1 (71) in the second round, while Junior Julian Ayape (Bayonne, France)placed at No. 64 with a +16 (232).  Both Senior Patrick Hauschildt (Hamburg, Germany) and Sophomore Tomas Ayape (Bayonne, France) placed at No. 67 with a +17 (223) apiece. 

 

Several Vikings also played as individuals for the men's team.  Freshman Chase Schlossenberg (Kansas City, Mo.) placed at No. 58 with a final score of +14 (230), Freshman Aiden Grindstaff (Harrisburg, Mo.) came in at No. 67 with a +17 (233), Freshman Aaron Allen (Leavenworth, Kan.) followed at No. 81 with a +27 (243), Freshman James Angelotti (Bashor, Kan.) finished with a +29 (245) to place at No. 85, Freshman Luke Wootan (Austin, Texas) shot a +32 (248) to place at No. 87, Sophomore Jacob Salas (Hillsboro, Mo.) totaled a +37 (253) to place at No. 89), Junior Alex Ballinger (Northampton, England) had a +59 (275) to place at No. 92 and Junior Jackson Tobias (Warrenton, Mo.) placed at No. 93 with a +115 (331).

 

The women's team was led by Junior Hanna Rieker (Munich, Germany) who was second overall, six shots back of first place, with a final score of +19 (235).  Sophomore Sydney Righter (Camdenton, Mo.) followed at seventh place with a +42 (258), and Senior Kali Brown (Smithville, Mo.) totaled a +48 (264) to place ninth.  Sophomore Victoria Mendard Varela (Coruna, Spain) placed at No. 16 with a +51 (267) to round out the team scorers and Senior Madison Mills (Willard, Mo.) added a +67 (283) to place at No. 24.

 

Playing as individuals for the women's team were Junior Jalynn Allen (Lebanon, Mo.) who placed at No. 23 overall with a +65 (281), Freshman McKenna Gilpin (Independence, Mo.) with a +93 (309) to finish at No. 33 and Freshman Moriah Bolin (St. Louis, Mo.) with a +120 (336) to place at No. 38.

 

The Viking men's "A" team won the tournament with a new record of -50 (814), topping second place No. 12 William Woods (Mo.) by 42 strokes.  The team's -22 (266) first round score broke the previous single-round program record at the tournament, set in 2018.  The men's "B" team was third with a +4 (868), the "C" team was ninth with a +17 (881), the "E" team was No. 11 with a +32 (896) and the "D" team was No. 13 with a +44 (908).

 

The Viking women's golf team finished second overall with a +160 (1024).  William Penn (Iowa) won the tournament with a +135 (999) and William Woods was third with a +174 (1038).

 

Up next, the Viking men's and women's golf teams compete at the CMU Fall Invitational at Hail Ridge Golf Course in Boonville, Mo., Sept. 22-23.
