Men's Golf Opens Season at Mid-South Classic

 

Newton, Kan., (Sept. 3, 2025)- The Missouri Valley College men's golf team opened the fall competition season with play at the Mid-South Classic at Sand Creek Station in Newton, Kan.  The tournament featured 18 teams and more than 100 individuals.  The Vikings placed fifth overall with three individuals in the top 25.

 

Leading the team was Senior Chad Coburn (Bloemfontein, South Africa), who finished at No. 11 overall with a three-round score of +2 (218).  Coburn shot an even-par (72) in the first round and followed with a -2 (70) in the second round.  Freshman Troy Taylor (Ballito, South Africa) followed at No. 15 with a final score of +3 (219), and shot a -1 (71) in the third round.  Sophomore Brad Storrer (Harare, Zimbabwe) came in at No. 21 with a +4 (220), which included a -1 (71) in the second round.  Finishing out the team scorers was Freshman Felipe Suarez (Cordoba, Argentina) at No. 31 with a +6 (222).  Suarez had the lowest score of the third round, and the second-lowest score in the tournament, with a -5 (67).  Junior Valentin Bosdari (Mendoza, Argentina) came in at No. 71 with a final score of +19 (235).

 

Two Vikings played as individuals at the tournament.  Senior Dominc Hoskin (Witham, England) totaled a +23 (239) to place at No. 76 and Senior Nelius De Jager (Upington, South Africa) finished at No. 79 with a +24 (240).

 

As a team, Missouri Valley placed fifth overall with a score of +11 (875).  The Vikings shot under-par, -1 (287), in the third round.  No. 5 MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) won with a -2 (862), followed by No. 10 Friends (Kan.) in second with an even-par (864).  Nebraska Wesleyan was third with a +6 (870) and No. 23 Science & Arts (Okla.) was fourth with a +10 (874).

 

Up next, the men's and women's golf teams will host the Missouri Valley Fall Invitational, Sept. 8-9, at Indian Foothills Golf Course in Marshall, Mo.
