Men's Golf Competes at Players Club Invitational
Yorktown, Ind., (Sept. 12, 2023)- The Missouri Valley College men's golf team continued its season by playing in The Players Club Invitational at the Players Club in Yorktown, Ind., this week. The Vikings finished in the top five of the team standings with one individual in the top ten overall.
Leading the team was Sophomore Mateo Quiroga (Canelones, Uruguay) who finished with a three-round score of -4 (212) to place fourth, six strokes back of first place. Quiroga shot even-par in the first two rounds, and finished with a -4 (68) in the third round, the second-lowest score of the round.
Senior Andres Rueda de Leon (Tabasco, Mexico) followed at No. 11, with a final score of +1 (214). Rueda de Leon finished with a -3 (69) in the second round. Freshman Shawn Glover (Syracuse, Utah) followed at No. 53 with a +12 (228), which included an even-par (72) in the first round. Sophomore Nelius de Jager (Upington, South Africa) rounded out the team scorers with a +13 (229) to place at No. 55. Freshman Cadyn Sava (Arlington, Wash.) finished with a +20 (236) to place at No. 80.
As a team, the Vikings came in with a total score of +12 (876) to place fifth. The team finished with the second-best third round score, at -4 (284). Marian (Ind.) won the tournament with a -3 (861) total score. Missouri Valley finished one stroke behind No. 12 Taylor (Ind.) in the standings.
Up next, the men's and women's golf teams will compete at the William Woods (Mo.) Fall Invite at Tanglewood Golf Course in Fulton, Mo., Sept. 18-19.
