Golf Teams Host MVC Spring Invite

Marshall, Mo., (April 11, 2023)- The Missouri Valley College golf teams hosted the MVC Spring Invitational Monday and Tuesday at Indian Foothills Park.  The men's team finished fourth overall with one golfer winning the individual title in a playoff.

 

Leading the men's "A" team was Freshman Mateo Quiroga (Cankelones, Uruguay), who finished with a three-round score of -12 (204).  He shot a -5 (67) in the second round and a -7 (65) in the third round, which was the lowest round of all golfers in the tournament.  He tied for first overall and won the tournament on the third playoff hole.

 

Also on the "A" team, Freshman Valentin Bosdari (Mendoza, Argentina) finished at No. 15 with a +1 (217), which included a -1 (71) in the first round and a -2 (70) in the second round.  Senior Andres Rueda de Leon (Tabasco, Mexico) also placed at No. 15 with a +1 (217).  He shot a -2 (70) in the first round.  Freshman Joaquin Calderon (Quito, Ecuador) rounded out the team scorers with a +8 (224) to place at No. 29, and Junior Matias Maquieira (A Coruna, Spain) placed at No. 46 with a +20 (236).

 

The "B" team placed eighth was led by Sophomore Isaac Taleb (Pereira, Colombia( at No. 24 with a +5 (221).  He finished with a -1 (71) in the first round.  Senior Aaron Danson (Southampton, England) placed at No. 29 with a +8 (224), with Freshman Patrick Hauschildt (Hamburg, Germany) at No. 38 with a +13 (229).  Senior Aman Egge (Martelle, Iowa) rounded out the team scorers with a +16 (232) to place at No. 41, and Sophomore Leondaro Borzaga (Cavareno, Italy) was at No. 58 with a +29 (246).

 

The "C" team placed ninth and was led by Freshman Dominic Hoskin (Witham, England) at No. 26 with a +6 (222).  Senior Carlos Jimenez (Madrid, Spain) placed No. 42 with a +17 (233).  Freshman Jules Garret (Lyon, France) came in at No. 51 with a +24 (240) and Jesus Perez Vara placed at No. 53 with a +26 (242).  Nelius De Jager played two rounds at +4 (146).

 

Two men's golfers played as individuals.  Freshman Joaquin Calderon (Quito, Ecuador) finished at No. 29 with a +8 (224), Freshman Carson Rody (Calgary, Alberta) placed No. 43 with a +18 (234), Junior Sebasthian Contreras (Bogota, Colombia) placed at No. 53 with a +26 (242), and Freshman Mason Hage (Boonville, Mo.) placed at No. 55 with a +27 (243).

 

Missouri Valley placed fourth as a team with a final score of -5 (859).  Columbia (Mo.) and Central Methodist (Mo.) tied for first at -24 (840).

 

Two individuals played for the Viking women's golf team.  Senior Sandra Rodriguez (Almeria, Spain) placed at No. 21 with a +49 (265).  Freshman Madison Mills (Willard, Mo.) placed at No. 25 with a three-round score of +52 (268). 

 

Columbia (Mo.) won the women's tournament with a final score of +120 (984).

 

Up next, the Viking golf teams will play at the Heart of America Athletic Conference Championship at The Preserve on Rathbun Lake in Moravia, Iowa.  The men's tournament is April 24-25 and the women's tournament is May 1-2.
