Golf Teams Compete at William Woods Spring Invite

Fulton, Mo., (March 28, 2023)- The Missouri Valley College men's and women's golf teams competed at the William Woods (Mo.) Spring Invite Monday and Tuesday at Tanglewood Golf Course in Fulton, Mo. The men's team finished second, led by the individual champion.

Leading the men's team was individual champion Freshman Mateo Quiroga (Caneiones, Uruguay). He finished with a two-round score of -9 (135). He shot the lowest round of all golfers in the tournament in the first round, with a -7 (65), then followed with a -2 (70) in the second round. He won a tie-breaker, and finished two strokes ahead of the rest of the field.

Senior Andres Rueda de Leon (Tabasco, Mexico) followed at No. 8 with a final score of +1 (145). He shot under-par in the first round, finishing with a -1 (71). Freshman Valentin Bosardi (Mendoza, Argentina) came in at No. 21 with a +6 (150) and Freshman joaquin Calderon (Quito, Ecuador) rounded out the team scorers with a +8 (152) to place at No. 35. Senior Aaron Danson (Southampton, England) placed at No. 74 with a score of +18 (162).

As a team, the Vikings finished second in the standings with a total score of +6 (297). Central Methodist (Mo.) won the tournament with a -1 (285).

The women's team had two players in the field as individuals. Freshman Madison Mills (Willard, Mo.) placed at No. 62 with a two-round score of +48 (192). Senior Sandra Rodriguez (Almeria, Spain) followed by No. 64 with a score of +50 (194).

Up next, the men's golf team competes at the Park (Mo.) Spring Classic at the Deuce Golf Club in Parkville, Mo., April 3-4. Both teams will host the MVC Spring Invite, April 10-11, at Indian Foothills Park.
