Men's Golf Opens Spring at Oakwood Intercollegiate
Enid, Okla., (March 21, 2023)- The Missouri Valley College men's golf team opened its spring competition season at the Oakwood Intercollegiate at Oakwood County Club in Enid, Okla., Monday and Tuesday. The Vikings had a runner-up finisher to lead the team.
Finishing in second place overall at the tournament was Freshman Mateo Quiroga (Canelones, Uruguay), who shot a two-round total of +6 (148). He finished three strokes back of first place, and posted one of the lowest scores in the second round, with a +1 (72), trimming four strokes off his first round score.
Freshman Dominic Hoskin (Witham, England) followed at No. 70 in the standings with a final score of +22 (164), with Freshman Nelius de Jager (Upington, South Africa) at No. 77 with a +23 (165). Senior Aaron Danson (Southampton, England) came in at No. 85 with a +25 (167) to finish out the team scorers, and Freshman Jules Garret (Lyon, France) had a +29 (171) to place at No. 97.
As a team, Missouri Valley scored a +76 (644) in the two rounds to place at No. 16 in the standings. The team trimmed 22 strokes off its first round score, and had a +27 (311) in the second round. Hutchison (Kan.) was first with a final score of +33 (601).
Next up for the Viking men's and women's golf teams is the William Woods (Mo.) Spring Invite, March 27-28, at Tanglewood Golf Course in Fulton, Mo.
