Men's Bowling Makes Tournament Run at Heart Championship
Columbia, Mo., (Feb. 23, 2025)- The Missouri Valley College men's bowling team competed at the Heart of America Athletic Conference Championship at AMF Town and Country Lanes in Columbia, Mo., this weekend. The Vikings made a tournament run, advancing one round short of the championship finals.
Missouri Valley entered the conference championship as the No. 5 seed, and the tournament was competed in a best-of-three series in each round of competition. The series consisted of three sets. Set 1 went to the team with the highest pinfall in a five-bowler tradition game. Set 2 was total pinfall match of four Baker games. Set 3 was contested, if necessary, in a best-of-five Baker format match.
The Vikings opened with a first round series against No. 4 seed Missouri Baptist, and fell, 2-0 in the series, which moved the team into the losers bracket.
The first round of the losers bracket was a series against No. 8 Grand View (Iowa), which Missouri Valley won, 2-0. Next up was a series in the losers bracket second round against No. 7 Peru State (Neb.), which went to the Vikings, 2-0 in games won. The third round was a rematch against No. 4 Missouri Baptist, and MVC earned a 2-1 victory in games, advancing to the consolation final.
Needing one more series win to reach the championship round, the Vikings fell to No. 6 seed, and eventual conference champion, Culver-Stockton (Mo.), 2-1 in games.
Culver-Stockton defeated No. 1 William Penn in a pair of best-of-three series to secure the conference title. Missouri Valley finished third in the championship tournament.
