Bowling Places Sixth at Heart Championship
Oskaloosa, Iowa, (Feb. 26, 2023)- The Missouri Valley College bowling team competed at the Heart of America Athletic Conference Championship in Oskaloosa, Iowa, this weekend. The Vikings finished sixth overall.Men's
The championship event opened with the teams playing 24 Baker games. Missouri Valley finished seventh in the standings, with a total of 4,203 pins. William Penn (Iowa) was first with 4,685 pins. The Baker games established seeding for bracket competition in the championship tournament.
In the championship tournament, Missouri Valley entered as the No. 7 and had a first round match up with No. 2 Baker (Kan.). The Vikings upset the Wildcats, winning the best-of-five series, 3-0, in games won. Missouri Valley earned victories by 179-172, 197-173, 198-167, which advanced the team into the championship semifinals.
The Vikings then bowled against No. 3 Culver-Stockton in the semifinals, and fell in three games in the best-of-five series. The scores were 153-179, 172-191, 140-162.
In the loser's bracket, Missouri Valley met No. 4 seeded Peru State (Neb.). The Vikings extended the best-of-five series to a fifth game, but lost and were eliminated. The scores were 146-183, 166-163, 201-155, 138-165, 186-211.
Advancing into the championship semifinal round allowed Missouri Valley to finish sixth in the tournament. William Penn (Iowa) captured the conference championship.
