Men's Basketball Pulls Away From Culver-Stockton in Home Win
Marshall, Mo. (Jan. 14, 2026)- The Missouri Valley College men's and women's basketball teams hosted Culver-Stockton (Mo.) in a Heart of America Athletic Conference doubleheader Wednesday evening inside the Burns Athletic Complex. The women's team fell by a 67-50 final score, while the men's team held off the Wildcats late for a 72-65 win.
The two teams traded points at the start of the men's game, as Junior Kamari Slaughter (Gary, Ind.), Senior Antwon Ferrell (Newman, Ga.), Junior Devin Davenport (Milwaukee, Wisc.) and Freshman Damario Moss (Lexington, Mo.) each had one basket to help keep the score tied, 8-8, three minutes into play. The Vikings moved ahead over the next three minutes, as Moss made a layup, then tracked down an offensive rebound that led to a dunk from Junior Keanu Patrick (Biloxi, Miss.). Slaughter added a steal and fast-break layup to close the stretch and give MVC a 14-8 advantage near the 14-minute mark. Culver-Stockton chipped away at its deficit over the next three minutes, and trailed, 16-14. Davenport made one free throw following a Wildcat technical, and Freshman Shalva Meunargia (Tbilisi, Georgia) sank a three-point shot to keep the team in front, 20-14, near the midway mark of the half. The next four points for Missouri Valley came on Davenport jumpers, as the lead went to 24-18 with nine minutes to play before the break. The two teams traded points over the next several minutes, as Ferrell and Davenport each added one field goal apiece to help MVC maintain a 28-22 lead. Culver-Stockton responded with a run to end the half, outscoring Missouri Valley by an 8-2 margin over the last five minutes to send the teams into halftime tied, 30-30.
Missouri Valley was held scoreless for nearly five minutes to begin play in the second half, as a Slaughter layup was the first field goal for the team after the break. Moss followed with a pair of free throws, while Meunargia and Patrick each added one basket apiece to send the team on top, 38-37, with nearly seven minutes off the clock. Ferrell added to the advantage less than one minute later on a three-pointer, but CSC cut its deficit down to 41-39 at the 12-minute mark. Slaughter added a pair of free throws, and Ferrell came up with a steal, which led to a Davenport fast-break layup, to stretch the lead out to 45-39 less than one minute later. The Wildcats responded with a quick 7-0 run to move on top, 46-45 midway through the half. Missouri Valley followed with a run of its own, outscoring CSC by a 9-0 margin over the next three minutes. Davenport started the stretch with a jumper, and Ferrell sank a pair of free throws. Davenport added another three points, and Ferrell closed the run with another layup as the team went back on top, 54-46, with seven minutes to play. A pair of Davenport free throws and a Meunargia layup moved the advantage to double-digits, 58-48, at the six-minute mark. The next four points for MVC came from Moss, as the score sat at 64-55 less than three minutes later. Culver-Stockton chipped away at its deficit over the next two minutes, and trailed, 66-63, with under one minute remaining. Ferrell made one free throw attempt, and a Wildcat in-bounds play resulted in a steal and fast-break dunk by Davenport to help end Culver-Stockton's rally. The Vikings added three more points from the free throw line in the closing seconds, and secured a 72-65 win.
Davenport finished with 22 points and four rebounds, while Ferrell had 14 points, six rebounds and six assists. Meunargia came off the bench to score 13 points, and Moss added 10 points and five rebounds. Missouri Valley forced 17 turnovers in the game, and held Culver-Stockton to 38-percent shooting from the floor.
Missouri Valley improves to 12-6 overall and 6-4 in the Heart. Culver-Stockton drops to 3-15 on the season and 0-10 in the conference.
