Men's Basketball Pulls Away From Harris-Stowe in Road Win
St. Louis, Mo., (Nov. 30, 2025)- The Missouri Valley College men's basketball team traveled to St. Louis, Mo., for a non-conference game against Harris-Stowe (Mo.), Sunday afternoon. The Vikings pulled away with a big second half to earn an 85-66 win.
Missouri Valley opened scoring in the game with baskets made by Junior Devin Davenport (Milwaukee, Wisc.), Junior Ryan Lewis (Fontana, Calif.), Junior Keanu Patrick (Biloxi, Miss.) and Freshman Damario Moss (Lexington, Mo.), to put the team on top, 8-4, with just over four minutes played in the contest. Senior Antwon Ferrell (Newman, Ga.) added a jumper just over one minute later to put the advantage at 10-6, while a pair of layups from Junior Cael Simpson (Gold Coast, Australia) made it a 14-8 score near the 11-minute mark. The Vikings increased their lead over the next stretch of play, as Sophomore Darrin Thompson (Huntsville, Ala.) sank a three-pointer and Ferrell added another two baskets to keep the team in front, 23-15 with less than nine minutes to play in the half. Harris-Stowe answered back over the next two minutes, and went on a 7-0 run to cut the team's deficit to 23-22. Thompson ended the MVC drought with a layup near the six-minute mark, followed by a pair of free throws from Davenport to keep Missouri Valley ahead, 27-22. Harris-Stowe worked back to tie the teams at 27-27, but three-straight baskets for the Vikings, coming from Davenport, Moss and Patrick helped send the team ahead, 33-27 as the half went under three minutes remaining. Missouri Valley ended the half without another basket, and Harris-Stowe went on a 7-0 run to close play and put the Vikings in a 34-33 deficit at halftime.
The second half started with the two teams trading points, which included a pair of free throws and layup from Davenport to put the teams into a 37-37 tie with just over one minute played. Both teams continued to stay close through the next stretch of play, as Davenport scored five points and Moss added a layup to send the Vikings in front, 44-42 near the 16-minute mark. Missouri Valley began to gradually build up their lead from there, as Ferrell and Moss both sank three-pointers and Davenport put in a dunk to make it a 52-44 score with just over six minutes off the clock. Harris-Stowe responded, and went on another 7-0 run to cut its deficit to 52-51 a little more than one minute later. The Vikings came back with a 9-0 run, featuring a three-pointer from Davenport, and layups from Thompson, Moss and two field goals by Ferrell to stretch the advantage to double-digits, 63-51, near the eight-minute mark. Harris-Stowe worked back toa 63-56 deficit over the next minute of play, but the Vikings followed with a run to take control of the game. Missouri Valley went on a 14-0 run over a nearly five-minute stretch. Davenport started the run with a jumper, while a Ferrell steal led to a Moss basket. Thompson added a three-point play, Lewis threw down a dunk, Davenport scored another three points and Moss sank a jump shot to eventually make it a 77-56 score. The two teams traded points over the final minutes of play, and four made free throws from Davenport closed out scoring and capped an 85-66 win for Missouri Valley.
Davenport led with 31 points to go with five rebounds. Ferrell had his second double-double of the season with 15 points and 11 rebounds, while Moss totaled 17 points and nine rebounds. Thompson came off the bench to score 10 points. Missouri Valley shot over 54-percent from the floor, and held a 42-35 advantage in rebounds.
The win moves Missouri Valley to 6-4 on the season, while Harris-Stowe falls to 1-5.
Up next, the Viking men's basketball team will return to Heart of America Athletic Conference play with a road contest in Fayette, Mo., against Central Methodist (Mo.), Wednesday evening. Women's game at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men's game at 7:30 p.m.
