Men's Basketball Drops Home Game to Benedictine

Marshall, Mo. (Nov. 25, 2025)- The Missouri Valley College men's and women's basketball teams welcomed Benedictine (Kan.) into the Burns Athletic Complex Tuesday evening for a Heart of America Athletic Conference doubleheader.  The women's team fell by a final score of 66-61.  The men's team dropped its game by a 69-57 score.

The men's game began with Missouri Valley falling into an early deficit, as the team made only one field goal through the opening 10-minutes of play, and eventually trailed, 19-3.  Junior Keanu Patrick (Biloxi, Miss.) ended the drought with an offensive rebound and put-back dunk, while Sophomore Darrin Thompson (Huntsville, Ala.) sank a three-pointer to make it a 21-8 score with less than eight minutes to play in the half.  The Vikings began to bring down the gap, as Junior Ryan Lewis (Fontana, Calif.) finished off a layup, Junior Devin Davenport (Milwaukee, Wisc.) added five points and Patrick made another layup to bring the team back to a 27-17 deficit near the six-minute mark.  Senior Antwon Ferrell (Newman, Ga.) made a three-pointer and Davenport had a late layup, but the Ravens extended their advantage at the end of the half, and MVC trailed, 41-24, at halftime.

Missouri Valley began the second half on a 7-2 run, as Patrick and Davenport each put in field goals, and Freshman Damario Moss (Lexington, Mo.) sank a three-pointer, as the deficit sat at 43-31 with three minutes played after the break.  After BC extended its lead to 49-31 over the next two minutes, Davenport added the next four points for Missouri Valley to make it a 49-37 score.  Benedictine continued to increase its lead over the next stretch of play, and sat in front, 58-40 at the nine-minute mark.  The Vikings scored late, as Davenport made a pair of three-pointers to go with three free throws to close the gap down to 68-57 in the final minute.  Missouri Valley was unable to get any closer, and fell by a final score of 69-67.

Davenport led with 26 points, while Moss had nine points and four rebounds.  Thompson came off the bench to score seven points and add six rebounds.

Missouri Valley falls to 5-4 on the season and 2-2 in the Heart.  Benedictine improves to 5-3 overall and 3-1 in the conference.

Up next, the Viking women's basketball team will travel to Owensboro, Ky., for a non-conference game against Brescia (Ky.), Saturday at 2 p.m. The men's team goes to St. Louis, Mo., for a non-conference contest against Harris-Stowe (Mo.), Saturday at 3 p.m.
