Rocket League Team Falls in Region Championship Series
Marshall, Mo., (Dec. 6, 2024)- The Missouri Valley College Esports Rocket League team played Illinois Wesleyan in the NECC Division VI Midwest Championship Thursday evening. In front of a packed crowd inside the MVC Esports Arena, the Vikings fell in the best-of-seven series, 4-1 in games.
The Rocket League team was the No. 1 seed in the Division VI Midwest tournament, and played No. 2 seed Illinois Wesleyan. The Vikings went to overtime in three games during the series, but fell, 4-1 in games. Missouri Valley lost game one, 2-1 in overtime, followed by a 1-0 defeat in game two. Game three was a 2-1 win for Missouri Valley, but Illinois Wesleyan won game four in overtime, by a 3-2 score. Game five went to Illinois Wesleyan, 5-2.
Illinois Wesleyan earned a berth into the NECC National Rocket League Tournament, contested in the spring. By advancing to the Division VI Midwest Championship, Missouri Valley earned a spot in the Last Chance Qualifier tournament for the National competition. The Last Chance Qualifier tournament will take place prior to the National tournament, and could earn the Vikings a spot in the National competition.
