Rocket League Team Defeats George Fox
Marshall, Mo., (March 28, 2022)- The Missouri Valley College eSports Rocket League team continued competition in the Spring 2022 Rocket League Open, Monday with a quarterfinal round series against George Fox (Ore.). The Vikings won the best-of-seven series, 4-1, to advance in the winner's bracket.
Game one featured a 4-1 win for Missouri Valley, as Freshman Grant Woltkamp (Kearney, Mo.) scored two goals to lead the team. The Vikings fell in game two by a 7-2 score to even the series at 1-1 in games. Missouri Valley posted a shutout victory in game three, 6-0. Freshman Gerrit Visser (Bocholt, Germany) scored three goals in the game, and Freshman Kolby Smothers (Kearney Mo.) added two goals. The team pulled back from an early deficit to win the fourth game, 5-2. Woltkamp scored three-straight goals to lead the team. Missouri Valley then secured the victory by taking game five, 3-1, as Smother scored twice.
Woltkamp scored eight goals to lead the team, Smothers added seven goals and Visser finished with five goals. Missouri Valley outscored George Fox by a 20-11 margin.
The win keeps Missouri Valley in the winner's bracket of the 2022 Rocket League Open. The Vikings will next compete in the semifinal round, Monday at 7:30 p.m., against Fanshawe (Canada).
