Rocket League Advances to Quarterfinals
Marshall, Mo., (March 22, 2022)- The Missouri Valley College eSports Rocket League team started competition in the Spring 2022 Rocket League Open, Monday with a first round series against University of Montreal. The Vikings swept the best-of-seven series to advance in the winner's bracket.
Game one of the series featured a 6-0 shutout victory for Missouri Valley. Freshman Grant Woltkamp (Kearney, Mo.) scored three goals, while Freshman Gerrit Visser (Bocholt, Germany) added two goals. Game two featured the team holding off Montreal, for a 3-2 victory. Woltkamp scored twice in the game, including the game-winning goal. The Vikings trailed early in the third game, but came back to pull away for an 8-1 win. Freshman Kolby Smothers (Kearney, Mo.) led with four goals, while both Woltkamp and Visser added two goals apiece. The team finished off the sweep with a 4-1 win in the fourth game, led by two goals from Visser. Missouri Valley outscored Montreal by a 21-4 margin.
The win keeps Missouri Valley in the winner's bracket of the 2022 Rocket League Open. The Vikings will next compete in the quarterfinal round, Monday at 7:30 p.m., against George Fox (Ore.).
