Bio
Head Coach Paul Troth came to Missouri Valley College from Huron University in South Dakota in 2002. The eighth head coach in MVC’s history, Coach Troth has 26 years of coaching experience with 20 of those at the collegiate level. In his first year at Missouri Valley, Coach Troth led the Vikings to an 8-2 overall record. American Football Monthly magazine named Coach Troth the 2002 Schutt Sports NAIA Coach of the Year. In 2006, Coach Troth led the Vikings to a 13-1 overall record, a HAAC championship, an NAIA national semifinal playoff game and a final NAIA #3 national ranking. Coach Troth was named HAAC Coach-of-the-Year and American Football Coaches Association Region III Coach-of-the-Year. In 2007, Coach Troth led the Vikings to a 10-3 overall record and another NAIA national semifinal playoff game and a final NAIA #3 national ranking. Coach Troth was named American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Region III Coach-of-the-Year in 2007. Troth gave much of the credit for his award to his staff and their hard work and overall dedication to the MVC program. Coach Troth led the Vikings to the NAIA Championship Series in 2009 and 2011, and won his second HAAC title in 2011. In 2012 the VIkings finished the regular season 10-0, capturing their second-straight HAAC title, and achieved a No. 2 ranking. Coach Troth led MVC to two home playoff wins, and a third appearance in the NAIA Championship Series secmifinal. Following the 2012 season Coach Troth was named the HAAC’s Coach-of-the--Year, and was named the AFCA Region III Coach-of-the-Year. Coach Troth led MVC to a third-straight HAAC title in 2013, along with an NAIA FCS Quarterfinal appearance. In 2014, Troth led the Vikings to a fourth-straight Heart championship, and another quarterfinal appearance in the NAIA FCS. In 2016, the Vikings made another NAIA FCS appearance, the eighth during Troth's tenture. Troth enters the 2019 season with a record of 130-61 at Missouri Valley, and an overall coaching record of 168-78.
Coach Troth previously coached at Huron University where he won a conferece title in 2000 , and was named the 1999 Dakota Conference Coach-of-the-Year. Coach Troth left Huron University with a 38-18 coaching record, and led the program to three NAIA playoffs which included a trip to the 1998 semifinals, and the 2000 quarterfinals. Coach Troth has developed 29 academic All-Americans, and 14 football All-Americans. Coach Troth holds a bachelor’s degree from William Jewell College and a master’s degree from the University of Memphis. Troth’s previous stops before Huron University include, Lambuth University (Tenn.), University of St. Thomas (Minn.), William Jewell College, and overseas head coaching positions in Amsterdam, Holland, and Paris, France. During that time Coach Troth accumulated coaching earned five conference championships, three playoff appearances, offensive coordinator of the year award, two European championships, and six national championships.
Coach Troth lives in Marshall with his wife, Heather, his daughters, Kelsey, Keegan,and Karson, and his son, Palmer.
