Shotgun Sports Team Finishes Second at Viking Invitational

Marshall, Mo., (Oct. 11, 2024)- The Missouri Valley College shotgun sports team hosted the Viking Invitational at Prairie Grove Shotgun Sports Complex in Columbia, Mo.  Missouri Valley finished second overall, with several individual honors.

 

The Vikings finished first in trap, with a combined score of 482/500.  Leading the team was Sophomore Paige Burns (Trail, Minn.) with a 99/100, followed by Sophomore Jack Duffin (Novato, Calif.) at 97/100.  Freshman Marissa Schaldecker (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) and Freshman Olivia Simmons (Flower Mound, Texas) each had scores of 96/100, and both Freshman Makenna Parr (Arlington, Wisc.) and Sophomore Dakota Zaugg (Santa Maria, Calif.) added scores of 94/100 each.  Also, Freshman Natalia Harsh (Crane, Mo.), Junior Daniel Younger-Loesing (Nelson, Mo.), Senior Blayne Kolb (Maysville, Mo.) and Senior Charlie Maddox (Forest, Va.) each posted scores of 93/100.

 

The team placed second on skeet, with a 460/500 score.  Maddox led with a 97/100, followed by Zaugg at 92/100 and Kolb at 91/100.  Both Jack Duffin and Freshman Madi Scott (Kaysville, Utah) added scores of 90/100.

 

Missouri Valley also placed first in sporting clays, with a 400/500 score.  Duffin led with an 83/100, and Kolb added an 82/100.  Zaugg posted an 81/100, while Maddox had a 78/100 and Simmons finished out the team scorers with a 76/100.

 

In the individual High Overall standings, Simmons placed first on the women's side with a 261/300, followed by Burns at 248/300 in second place and Scott in third with a 246/500. On the men's side, Duffin was third with a 270/300.

 

Missouri Valley placed second as a team, with a final total of 1,332.  Fort Hays (Kan.) State won with a total of 1,337.  Missouri was third with a 1,209, followed by Central Christian (Kan.) with a 1,046 score, Hannibal-LaGrange (Mo.) at 924 and Missouri S&T at 784.

 

"The team came together this weekend and performed well at our home competition," said Head Coach Reba Kingsley.  "There are a few areas we will work on in practice to clean up.  Good momentum is built as we look ahead to compete at the conference championship."

 

Up next, the team travels to Sparta, Ill., for the ACUI/SCTP Central Midwest Conference Championship, Saturday and Sunday at the World Shooting and Recreation Complex.
