Archery Team Competes At William Woods

Fulton, Mo., (Oct. 1, 2024)- The Missouri Valley College archery team competed for the first time in program-history at the William Woods (Mo.) Invitational.  The team competed in three disciplines at the event.

Competing in women's barebow was Alyssa Willis, who earned a total score of 181, placing second overall.  Willis finished 11 points behind first place in the event.  Two Vikings competed in women's compound.  Elsie Heimericks placed fourth in the event with an 85, and Brighid Grooms was fifth with a 71.  Also, Carter Taylor competed in men's compound, and finished with a 209 to place third.

"Alyssa Willis finished second in her division behind an individual that placed third at regionals and has been shooting collegiately for three years," said Head Coach John McEachern.  "Alyssa has been shooting her new bow for a week prior to this event, and was right behind the leader.  Carter Taylor shot well in a very competitive division.  Elsie Heimericks and Brighid Groom are working hard and doing a good job adapting to competitive archery."

The archery team will be focusing on indoor competitions for the 2024-25 competition season, which will begin in the coming months.
