Shotgun Sports Team Opens Fall Season at State Fair Trap Exhibition
Sedalia, Mo., (Sept. 10, 2024)- The Missouri Valley College shotgun sports team opened its fall competition season with the State Fair (Mo.) Trap Exhibition. The Vikings placed first overall, with five individuals in the top ten.
On the men's side, the team was led by Sophomore Dakota Zaugg (Santa Maria, Calif.), who finished second in the individual standings with a 97/100 score, one shot behind first place. The pair of Freshman Lodden Axtell (Muscatine, Iowa) and Sophomore Jack Duffin (Novato, Calif.) followed in a tie for third, both with a 96/100 score. Junior Ely Allen (Carrollton, Mo.) followed in fifth with a 94/100 and Freshman Jay Allen (Harris, Mo.) placed sixth with a 93/100 score.
On the women's side, two Vikings finished on top of the standings. Freshman Makenna Parr (Arlington, Wisc.) was first overall with a 99/100 score, and Freshman Madi Scott (Kaysville, Utah) followed in second place with a 98/100 score. Also, both Freshman Marissa Schaldecker (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) and Junior Josie Stuver (Carrollton, Mo.) tied for fourth, each posting a score of 90/100.
Missouri Valley won the team event, with a final total of 486/500, followed by William Woods (Mo.) in second place with 461/500, and State Fair placing third with a 457/500 score.
"Attending the trap exhibition was a nice introduction to the first collegiate event for the freshman student-athletes," said Head Coach Reba Kingsley. "It also served as a warm-up as the team prepared for our first weekend competition. The team is a talented group of athletes, and I look forward to working with them this season."
The shotgun sports team followed with the Drury (Mo.) Panther Classic over the weekend, and has the Simpson Invitational set for Sept. 14-15 in Waukee, Iowa.
