Men's Bowling Places Sixth at Heart Championship
Topeka, Kan., (Feb. 25, 2024)- The Missouri Valley College men's bowling team competed at the Heart of America Athletic Conference Men's Bowling Championship at Gage Center Bowl in Topeka, Kan. The Vikings pulled off a first round upset in tournament play, and finished sixth in the overall standings.
The Heart Championship began with 24 Baker games bowled by each team. Missouri Valley finished with a pin total of 3,532 to place eighth in the standings. The team's best set of games was set five, finishing with 634 pins. The top team after the Baker games was William Penn (Iowa), with 4,485 pins.
The Baker games seeded the teams into a double-elimination bracket, with Missouri Valley seeded No. 8, opening with a quarterfinal match against No. 1 seed William Penn. In the best-of-five series, the Vikings earned an upset victory in the quarterfinals, sweeping past the top-seeded Statesmen by scores of 199-160, 201-175, 153-147, which advanced the team into the semifinals.
Missouri Valley met No. 4 seeded Grand View (Iowa) in the semifinals, and was swept by scores of 131-220, 164-169, 151-219, which dropped MVC into the consolation bracket.
In the first consolation matchup, the Vikings met No. 2 seeded Baker (Kan.), and went to a fifth game, in the best-of-five series. The Vikings fell by scores of 138-175, 177-159, 165-165, 156-175, 157-213, and were eliminated.
Missouri Valley finished sixth in the overall standings. Grand View defeated William Penn, 3-2, in the championship series for the conference title.
The Heart Championship finished the season for the Viking men's bowling team.
