STUNT Added As Varsity Sport
Marshall, Mo., (Aug. 17, 2023)- Missouri Valley College Athletic Director Mike Machholz announces the addition of College STUNT to the department's lineup of sports for the 2023-24 athletic year.
College STUNT becomes the college's twelfth female sport, and increases the total number of athletic teams in the department to 31. College STUNT is a female-only sport that focuses on the technical and athletic aspects of cheer. This is a head-to-head sport, where teams compete in four quarters that feature different aspects of cheer. The quarters are split up into partner stunts, pyramids and tosses, jumps and tumbling, and team routine. Teams will receive points based on their performances each quarter, with all four quarters adding up for a final score.
"Missouri Valley College is proud to announce the addition of STUNT to the MVC spirit squad events," said Athletic Director Mike Machholz. "These are very talented student-athletes that combine gymnastics and cheer elements together to form the sport. We have had great success with our cheer program over the years, and it only makes sense to add this competitive sport into our current spirit squad offering with sideline and event cheer and competitive cheer. It's going to be fun to watch!"
Current Cheer Assistant Coach Tori Pimentel will take over as Head Coach for the STUNT program, while also maintaining her current role with the cheer team. Pimentel was a student-athlete on the 2018 NAIA competitive cheer National championship team, and has been on the cheer coaching staff since 2021.
USA Cheer oversees STUNT, its competitions and the National championship. Teams consist of at least 16 student-athletes, competing in between 6-14 contests during the regular season. The STUNT season begins in February with the USA Cheer College National Championship held in April. Nationally, 64 colleges from NCAA Division I to NJCAA compete in STUNT through USA Cheer.
